  • Mets 8 Rockies 3: Pat Misch earned his first career win thanks to seven strong innings of pitching. Mitsch allowed two homers, but settled down, avoiding becoming the first player in the Majors to lose his first 13 starts. Mets rookie catcher Josh Thole got his first career start and his first hit, eventually going 2-5 with a single and double. David Wright and Angel Pagan both had two RBI and Daniel Murphy cleaned up with a homer, double and two RBI's.
  • Yankees 10 Toronto 5: New York jumped out to an early lead thanks to a big Blue Jay error and held on for the win. Toronto rallied, but they fell short, in part because of a three-run ninth from the Yankees' offense. Alfredo Aceves earned his 10th win of the year in relief.

  • At the U.S. Open, the seeded men advanced somewhat easily with Blake, Roddick, Djokovic, Davydenko all advancing. James Blake won in four sets, but nearly trailed the match 2 sets to 1. He fought off three set points in the 3rd set tiebreaker before coming back to with the set and eventually the match. On the women's side, top seeded Dinara Safina needed three sets to advance and Maria Sharapova advanced easily over 17-year-old Jersey native Christina McHale, but other top seeds didn't fare so well. Four seed Elena Dementieva was upset by Melanie Oudin, another 17-year-old American, and five seed Jelena Jankovic was also ousted in the 2nd round.
