72nd Street Subway, Where Candidates Make Their Cases

2009_09_72sub.jpg The Daily News noticed that there were three of the four City Comptroller candidates, John Liu, David Weprin and David Yassky, trying to bring their cases to commuters at the 72nd Street and Broadway subway station on the Upper West Side—and it wasn't pretty: "'Doesn't he look like a used car salesman?' asked a Liu worker of a straphanger who'd just finished talking to Weprin. When Weprin volunteer Luther Eason loudly urged voters to support 'the honest controller' - a reference to allegations that Liu embellished a story about working in a sweatshop as a child - Liu's team told commuters that Weprin flubbed a Daily News quiz about the size of the controller's office budget." Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, a Liu endorser, explained the appeal of the West 72nd Street subway station, "Texas has oil and the upper West Side has Democrats. It's a rite of passage. Like you go to Nathan's hot dogs out in Brooklyn, you've got to go the 72nd St. subway station." Or Fairway—we've seen Mark Green, Cyrus Vance, and countless others there on weekends!

I like Katz, she's more focused and as she puts she "prefers winning to fighting"

Katz in IN BED with the real estate developers. Half of all her contributions are from real estate developers. she is chair of the Land Use Committee and has rezone out small businesses and Long term residents for the behalf of developers. Check out Yassky. He is the best qualified and doesn't lie about working in a sweatshop factory as a child

The best thing to do on UWS is to get on the train and get out there (to Brooklyn or downtown). To do that as fast as possible, you need to go to the 72nd st express stop. This is why that's the best spot to catch people.

Walking through the Staten Island Ferry terminal for your morning commute during election season is a nightmare. They should have designated paths the people who don't want to be accosted can follow.

I know lots of people are tired of phone calls, door canvasing but this is democracy and we need to vote many incumbents out as Christine Quinn who killed the West Village.

The best thing at 72nd Street last night was the Schntizel Truck!

We need a needle park redux.

Am I the only one to be have raised an eyebrow at his commercial that touts the fact that he worked in a "sweatshop" at the age of 7? Assuming for the moment that's true, that's quite a stab in his parents' backs, and especially given he is Asian, he should fully appreciate the dastardly implications of saying something like that.
