Grizzly Bear & Friends Help Brooklyn Say Goodbye to Summer

phpY1ZlbIPM.jpg Sigh, as today's weather hints at: summer is nearly over. This means that the outdoor concerts are coming to an end, with the Pool Parties having their last hurrah on the waterfront yesterday afternoon. Brooklyn band Grizzly Bear helped send off the season, providing a soundtrack with sounds from their latest release Veckatimest as well as their previous effort Yellow House.

The crowd, a sea of plaid, straw hats, flow-y dresses and v-necks, doted on every ethereal note—and many earned their spots in the crowd, waiting nearly 2 hours to get in (when the gates were closed off to the many who couldn't squeeze by the State Park officials, frontman Ed Droste suggested slipping through the fence cracks). Amongst those who made it through were actress Mischa Barton, Senator Chuck Schumer (again!), Jay-Z and Beyonce.

Aside from the A-list sightings, the main highlights were in the headliner's set, which included their single "Two Weeks," a piano-driven tune which featured guest vocals from Victoria Legrand of opening band Beach House. A common fear was that their orchestral and organic sound might be lost in such a big open space, but there wasn't a sore song in the bunch. The intricacies of their record translated seamlessly through the big speakers. Towards the end, the sun setting backdropped the event, which perfectly closed out the summer. Now, where are next year's parties going to be held?

Agreed. No reason to wait in that line. At all...

Waiting on lines is for suckers. Just walk in. That's what I did for the Girl Talk party.

it was cool that it was free. but you get what you pay for, i.e. a line that barely, barely moved until finally it didn't and a ton of people who were there pretty early in the day got told they weren't getting in. for those who made it in, i'm sure it was fantastic.

Look how cute Beyonce looks, and how not cute Chuck looks.

Yeah, the alcohol thing sucks, the sight lines are tricky and the line to get was outrageous, but I really enjoyed this show and Grizzly Bear never disappoints. What a gorgeous day!

And seeing Jay-Z, Beyonce and Chuck S. up close was pretty awesome! Yup, I admit to being starstruck.

  • buttface

50-75% of attendees aren't there for the music and will just mingle while the bands play.

Alcohol is kept fenced in, and sight lines suck from there.

    RIP Pool Parties
