Health Care Rally in Times Square Tomorrow

php8uMyGRPM.jpg Tomorrow afternoon (at 2 p.m.) Times Square will serve as the stage for a Health Care rally, the NY Times reports. Over 75 "Democratic and health-related groups that support President Obama’s goals for overhauling the health care system" will converge on the Crossroads of the World to get their voices heard. The paper points out that amongst those groups will be the Upper West Side Baby Boomers and "Raising Women’s Voices, a group that mobilizes women as advocates for better health care. They and others want to ensure that any final legislation guarantees that pregnant women will have health insurance." Currently 13% of pregnant women are uninsured, with some insurers classifying pregnancy as a pre-existing condition and declining coverage. CityRoom reports that "midmorning, groups of demonstrators will congregate at sites across the city, including Mary Immaculate Hospital in Queens, which has closed. They will then walk to West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue, where the demonstration will begin." President Obama's website notes that the rally is in tribute of the late Ted Kennedy.

libtards. If you can't afford chemo don't get cancer idiots!

The government has done such a spectacular job running everything from Social Security, the Post Office, Cash for Clunkers and the search for WMD's in Iraq, what could possibly go wrong when they take over health care? This isn't reform, this is a textbook socialist power grab.

Do you get a script to write these fact-free, troll-bait comments?

It's called expressing an opinion dipshit. Google First Amendment if that helps. Believe it or not, not everybody sees the world through the same leftist kaleidoscope as you do.

Please explain what the First Amendment has to do with me leaving a snarky question.

What exactly is "fact-free" about it? Regardless of your position relating to the current healthcare debate, Social Security is estimated to be bankrupt by 2037 and Medicare by 2017. According to a report released by the government, in 75 years those programs combined will be cost $103.2 trillion, yet only recieve $57.4 trillion in revenue. [1] The Post Office was $2.8 billion in debt last year, and this year the Postmaster General claimed that they could experience a loss of $6 billion or more.[2] Cash for Clunkers is out of money, and had a debateable effect on pollution or even the economy. Are those enough facts for you?

Oh, and if WMDs were found in Iraq, please enlighten us, as I doubt any of us have heard the news.

The seniors on Medicare and vets getting care at the VA aren't complaining about their government-run health care programs. And they aren't among the 20,000 people who die each year in this country due to lack of access to medical care.

Medicare has overhead costs of 3%, while the health insurance industry's "overhead" (largely profits) is 20%. Let's save people's lives rather than line the pockets of the titans, and shareholders, of health insurance companies.

If these clowns had any brains, they'd be protesting for TORT REFORM. That would bring medical costs down for everybody.

Tort reform in Texas (2003) lowered malpractice insurance rates and greatly reduced medical related lawsuits.

But, did not lower health care costs (Texas still ranks as the second most expensive state for health care) nor did it improve health care quality (Texans rank 30th in life expectancy).

Tort reform is certainly needed here in the U.S., but it's just another red herring raised by opponents of desperately needed improvements to a broken system.

Sure. Schedule the rally for a Saturday when the welfare offices are closed.

we have to do this for Teddy and all the other people who are uninsured or dealing with the satan that are health insurance companies.
next we should protest at the CEO's homes, time to fight back and fight back hard. enough is enough.
Greed is NOT GOOD.

Some people are going to walk to Times Square from Queens? Really?

It is good to see that both sides like to Astroturf.

Over 75 "Democratic and health-related groups that support President Obama’s goals for overhauling the health care system" will converge on the Crossroads of the World to get their voices heard.

i.e. Astroturf.

what astroturf?????
this is a rally for healthcare reform by democrats and healthcare related groups. they should know a thing about what's going on in our healthcare craphole we are in.
that's more paperwork, more time on the phone and less time for health CARE. paperwork submitting claims, on the phone getting pre-authorizations and prior approvals.
