Mayor Bloomberg was back in court for the third time in three months, giving a three-hour deposition in the second discrimination case he's had to deal with lately—this one brought by the Justice Department after complaints of unfair hiring practices from the Vulcan Society of black firefighters. The Times reports Bloomberg testified that he "did not recall receiving a report more than six years ago warning him about sharp differences in the passing rates between white and minority candidates for firefighter jobs." The mayor was not expected to testify until he went off about the case, unprompted, during his Congressional testimony in support of Sonia Sotomayor. The case may now head to trial this fall to determine if there was intent in the city's alleged negligence. A lawyer for the Vulcans said, “We’ve presented documents to him showing that the proportion of blacks in the Fire Department...is lower than the proportion that was in the Fire Department in the 1990s. (Bloomberg) dismissed that as minor differences — unimportant — at the same time that he said that he and the city have a great interest in expanding diversity."

too bad he's not in court for something more substantial, like pulling a chavez on mayoral term limits.
He's got an advertisement in this article--how ironic.
"Omnipotence...gotta get me some of that!"
--Stewie Griffin and Mayor Bloomberg
This headline works so well.
"The proceedings were logical and emotionless."
Was he masturbating in public?
I'm not a big fan of Bloomberg, but I hope we can agree that this lawsuit should not be cast aside lightly - it should be thrown out of court with great force.
I want Bloomberg to be thrown with great force.
to New Jersey?
back to Blahston where he belongs ideally. Actually, ideal location would be 20,000 leagues under the sea.
Wait til the Romulans get their hands on him...
Did they tell him to live well and prosper too?
The only time that we should be concerned about the ratio of black/white/hispanics that pass the various public service tests is when the ratio is drastically different than the data compiled by nationalized tests such the No Child Left Behind program.
When black people fail at something, no matter what it is, it's always racism and discrimination. It's all whitey's fault.
Instead of making the tests easier why not encourage people to study harder?
Why do we have to lower the bar, especially for a job that lives could depend on, in order to make things diverse?
I'd rather have the most competent individual, regardless of color...
And I still don't know how a firefighter test can be culturally biased...do they ask you to name the original members of Creedence Clearwater Revival or something?
As a proud member of the FDNY, this is disgusting! No race, color, creed, or anything matters when responding to an emergency. I would honestly risk life and limb for the brothers i work with, without hesitation. NOBODY SHOULD BE GIVEN THIS JOB THAT DOESNT DESERVE IT! NO ONE! This concerns every citizen of this city. Do not dumb down a test. The FDNY is the greatest job in the world. But you must earn it. RESPECT GETS RESPECT!
Well said.
Thanks to the NYFD for all you do.
How many years was it without a contract?
Stay safe.
