Fame Costume Contest Brings out Underachievers

Did any of these people ever even see Fame? You wouldn't know it by looking at the outfits they chose for the costume contest that was held last night in conjunction with a screening of the classic 1980 film. This all went down in McCarren Park, where one would wager the audience had way more interesting 80s vintage incorporated into their daily attire than they did for the event. Cut-off tees? Jean shorts? Yawn. Check out the contestants, the winners and the disaffected hipsters, above.

Katie's stuff looks slightly underexposed.

It's low light, most likely at or shortly after sunset. I'd choose faster shutter speeds and slight underexposure over correct exposure with blurred movement.

Plus, it's a Fame costume contest, so the less exposure it gets, the better.

Well, strictly from a photographer's eye, she should have bumped up either the exposure or brightness just a bit in post.

The shot she has of the two girls hugging is the best one out of what's been posted -- at least it's telling a story. But, again, it's slightly underexposed.

nerds, nerds, nerds, nerds, nerds, ewww pubes, nerd babies

I'm sorry, did you say "Fame" or "Lame"?

I kill me.

Does anyone really expect these kids to know much about a movie that was made before most of them were born? In 1980, there wasn't the stereotypical 80s look yet, with the off-the-shoulder T-shirt/sweatshirt/whatever, bold patterns, bright colors, etc. That didn't come until a few years later with Flashdance, Miami Vice, Dynasty and others of their ilk.
