Timing FAIL

It would appear to be a very brutal practice. But, how is it any different from dangling a metal hook in the water, getting a fish caught with its mouth on it, and yanking it out of the water, tossing it on a heap, then finally butchering it with a cleaver. And no critic here has ever had a piece of fish fillet?

I'm no vegan yet shark finning disturbs me, mostly because all species of shark will be extinct in no time. Sharks do not reproduce rapidly like other fish and the human race is taking them for granted based on the fact that they've been around for 100 million years. That said..

Pretty sure most of the shark, being cartilage, isn't edible. Also, it's a lot more profitable to fill the ship's hold with, say, 10,000 shark fins, than, say 100 sharks.

Sharks are meaty and delicious, and (non-fin) shark meat is always available at Asian seafood centers. And I doubt they can catch 10,000 at a time.

If I was a Vietnamese or Chinese fisherman and I caught a freakin' shark, I sure as fuck wouldn't cut the fin off and throw the rest back. I'd eat and live pretty good off of it.
