Paterson Accuses Media Critics of Racism in Trying to Push Him Out

With sources saying that Governor Paterson is having his first real doubts about whether he will actually go through with an election campaign next year despite such abysmal poll numbers, the governor lashed out at how he's been lambasted in the press, claiming that the movement to push him out has been "orchestrated" and is racially motivated.

Paterson spoke yesterday in a radio interview with Errol Louis of the Daily News. Paterson said:

"We’re not in the postracial period...My feeling is it’s being orchestrated, it’s a game, and people who pay attention know that...I submit that the same kind of treatment that (Governor) Deval Patrick is receiving right now in Massachusetts, and I’m receiving...that we're not in a post-racial period...And the reality is that the next victim on the list - and you see it coming - is President Barack Obama...Even our own reporters from our own community buy the public line, which is, ‘We’re going to get rid of David Paterson.’...The fact is that this state is alive and well, will balance its budget in September and will be around a lot longer than their outlets are."
The Times says that Paterson seemed "hurt and frustrated" and was expressing "a growing dismay and isolation as his poll numbers remain perilously low." A source tells them that it's "the first time he's begun to wonder" about whether his low numbers make a run to remain governor worth it next year. During the radio program though, he did not express any such doubts saying, "Even if it didn’t work out, what is the shame of running for re-election and losing?... There’s no shame in losing. The shame is that you don’t fight."

Paterson did not have an easy time finding support for yesterday's remarks. Spokespeople for neither Governor Patrick nor President Obama had any response and already the local papers are jumping on the governor for playing the race card—including an editorial from Errol Louis himself. Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries acknowledged that there certainly is media bias while adding, “But the governor’s problems are very complex and cannot be attributed to any one particular issue.”

I love when the left complains of media bias. LAUGH OUT LOUD!

Wait, his support among blacks is plummeting as well and it's all racially motivated? Oooookay. Face the truth, Paterson. As a governor, you suck. Maybe you'd like the play the disabled person's card next? The electorate just can't handle a blind man in power, right?

No, Governor, the media just doesn't like goofy unphotogenic nerds...

Waiting for this story to appear here. Ides, and a whole lot of similar types, here's another chance...

Go!

He is really a doofus though. Blind and black...

How long before Obama stomps his little socialist feet and cries "You're all haters and racists!"

Sticks and stones may break our bones....

All this socialist talk is starting to make me uneasy. I never thought I would ever think this but I am starting to miss the Bush years.

I'm disappointed that the governor would play the race card instead of admitting his incompetence.

It wasn't racism that made him fall from a wave of goodwill when he took the place of his disgraced predecessor by admitting he'd been a drug user who cheated on his spouse. It wasn't racism that made him completely incompetent & impotent in his handling of NY State & it's many issues from the economy to the MTA. It wasn't racism that made him useless in dealing with the corruption in the state senate & scum like Pedro Espada.

The Lt Gov spot on a ticket is usually a reward for party loyalty, or payoff to a group or fund raising ability. Remember Betsy McCaughey, Pataki's 1st term Lt Gov, who stood behind him at a podium during his acceptance speech, in an act of unbelievable boorishness. Well, she was married to billionaire Wilbur Ross and that's how she got on the ticket. In other words Lt Governors are necessary evils, at least in NY State. The Dems didn't properly vet Spitzer and he got caught with his pants down and now were stuck with an incapable second choice. The racism part came in when he was nominated for the spot, it was a payoff

Maybe he shouldn't be banging broads in the office that aren't his wife then..

Good riddance to another old guard black politician who uses the race card at every turn.

Playing the race card when things go wrong will only make it more difficult for future black candidates to earn votes, even when they are better qualified than Paterson.

It's not racism Dave. You suck as a governor. Even a blind man can see that......Well maybe not.
