Video: Daily Show Deems Fox News "The New Liberals"

Spurred by the raucous town hall debates about health care, the Daily Show went to the archives to look at the time-honored tradition protesting the president...and wonders about Fox News' sudden transformation in the liberal media! But can it be? Hmm—one of the early examples is Bill O'Reilly saying on August 10 that when Fox News covers the town hall meetings, "We don't describe the protesters as loons"— then there's a September 1, 2004 (in the middle of the Republican National Convention here in NYC) clip of O'Reilly saying, "Surveys show many protesters are simply loons."

Gawker called this "a Fox News takedown for the ages." Also, for you lily-livered liberals, the Daily Show's segment on Barney Frank's "snaps" after the jump

Woman "Heil Hitler" to Israeli man.

  • longacre

The Daily Show: Repeating the same Fox News joke every night since 2003. It's really not that funny anymore.

If they assigned their editors who have spent tens of thousands of man hours assembling those montages to something productive they could probably solve the health care problem and cure cancer.

  • Yeah! Not at all as good as FOX News "The 1/2 Hour News Hour"!

    Now, there was Comedy!!

  • matty

The Nazis must have had a pretty good health care plan.

  • On FB, I actually came across someone who said:

"State run health care was a... Read More policy program that was instituted by Hitler and the National Socialist party -as you would expect as it's a great way to take away individuals freedom."
Apparently, "state run health care" will lead to death camps and other goodies...

  • Bottomless Chips

What's your point? That they are morons on both sides?

I could find a quote from a liberal who thinks obesity will go away, we'll make money from this, and no American will ever go without care ever again!

  • Riiigggghhhhtttt, Obesity comment equate Nazi references/conspiracy...

    (sigh)

Off topic a bit: Is it me or does it seems like every "protest" has:

    A. Birthers (ORLY??!?!)

    B. People who call President Obama a NAZI at least 5 different ways.

    C. Teabaggers (They STILL call themselves that!)

    D. Complete Assholes carrying weapons to a political event. Gee, wonder what their message is...

Me, I'll take "liberal" morons over the current thumb suckers any day.

  • Bottomless Chips

Your reply was drivel. If you can't acknowledge that both sides have their share of irrational thinkers, I have about as much interest in continuing this debate with a dining room table.

    /frank'd

  • "Drivel"? Uh huh. That would be the Ad hominem portion of your dialog, right? Is the strawman next?

Look "Bottomless Chips", I acknowledged that lately the right wing are absolutely bat shit crazy, apparently attempting to make the 9/11 nuts look rational. The "Liberals"? They don't hold a candle to the Bat shit crazy teabagers/Birther/Obama Bashers aka the GOP that are crawling out from under the rocks.

A Debate? Um, you compared NAZI references to an obscure "obesity" reference. That was your "point"? Right. "Brilliant", as they say.

I'm frankly not interested in a "debate". You said something that was, to me, apples and oranges (That would be this: "Anyone care to point out how TDS finally skewered (GASP!) The Ed Show and MSNBC?") and I commented, nothing more.

I don't "debate" politics with children or adults that seem to complain about a comedy show. You seem to be the later.

I could be wrong, but you seem to be upset that TDS does not go after MSNBC or The Ed Show. Fox is demonstratively (see the video above) the biggest hypocrites currently on TV. I certainly don't blame them: their in it for the money, nothing more.

Out right lying serves FOX very well and TDS takes note of it.

  • Bottomless Chips

Anyone care to point out how TDS finally skewered (GASP!) The Ed Show and MSNBC?

Oh wait, he still hasn't gone after Maddow and Olbermann. When he actually puts some vitriol into attacking them, let me know.

I mean it's not like MSNBC is so polarized and fighting for one segment of the audience, either...right?

  • Yeah... Damn Jon Stewart's Soul!!!!!!! How DARE he go after the "Patriotic" hypocrites on FOX News!!!

    (sigh)

Maybe he would (He has criticized MSNBC) but FOX certainly gives him *lots* to work with...

  • ixvnyc

Let me explain something to you: Jon Stewart is a liberal who makes fun of conservatives. Deal with it. You conservatives should get your own comedian/commentator to rip on MSNBC. The problem is: there is no such thing as a conservative person with a sense of humor!

  • hotstepper

fox news: promoting willful ignorance since 1996.

  • optimist

The hilarious thing here is this. So you had Bush was evil, and everyone disliked him. But now with Obama who is also evil, everyone shows that they simply disliked the flavor of evil of the Bush, not that they dislike evil.

Clearly the answer is they are both monsters. But, I guess the tide has gone out and shown that the anti-Bush crew really didn't disapprove of his tactics, just his party. And here I had thought Jon Stewart was cleaver until his party was in power.

  • TrippinJoJo

This is what I think about all presidents: past present future...

    SAME SHIT DIFFERENT TERM/YEARS.

It's never gonna end unless someone presses the "easy" button we are nuked away.

  • John_Matrix

    what are you babbling about?

  • mrguy

the shameless hypocrisy of fox news knows no bounds.

  • Mr. Shankly

The current administration and Congress (and the last, for that matter) are certainly not Nazis, or Communists. They are shameless corporate whores, however.

The mobocracy gets the government it deserves.

  • NannyState

Frankly, Mr Shankly, they're a sickening wreck. They've got the 21st Century breathing down their neck....

  • Cautious Pessimist

For fuck's sake people, telling someone that what they say is stupid and non-sensical is not shutting down free speech! Where in that clip did Barney Frank prevent the woman from exercising her free speech? Did he have someone come in and tase her? Was she then arrested and taken to jail?

She said that the bill was a "Nazi health care plan", and Frank (a gay Jewish man) proceeded to call her out of touch with reality. He then refused to speak with the woman further after it was obvious she was not going to proceed that remark with any intelligent thought. That is not preventing free speech. In fact, the mere fact he was there means he was promoting the ideas and beliefs you just quoted.

  • tingo

Bob, I think you're confusing 'constituant' with 'special interest group-engineered hoarde of assholes.'

  • Bob

"I say to the president, Mr. President, if you think that our troops in Iraq are there to fight for democracy, do not destroy it at home by cutting off our freedom of speech. . . . "So I thank all of you who have spoken out for your courage, your point of view. All of it. Your advocacy is very American and very important. . . . There's nothing more articulate, or more eloquent, to a member of Congress than the voice of his or her own constituent. . . . I'm a fan of disruptors,"--Nancy Pelosi, speaking to a San Francisco town hall meeting, Jan. 17, 2006
