Full Frontal Peep Show For L Train Riders

082009sub.jpg
SFW version of Zach Hyman's photograph
The no-pants subway ride people really need to step up their game; photographer Zach Hyman is making them look downright demure, by riding the subway with a young woman who takes it all off, for free. (Not including the $2.25 cost of a subway ride.) Commuters don't even have to get bottle service or stuff a dollar in her G-string, because she's not even wearing one. In June Hyman took some shots on the L train as 19-year-old actress Jocelyn Saldana stripped down to her birthday suit; the 30-second gimmick landed Hyman a nice feature in the Post today, which happens to coincide with his show opening at a West Village gallery. According to the article, most straphangers were "blasé. But one woman started screaming and an elderly man next to her got the shakes." Hyman's series of nudes in public only feature women because, as he explains, "photographing females in public is easier than males. People see a naked woman and they smile. They see a penis and they freak out." Honey, ain't that the truth. We've provided a closer SFWish look at the "striphanger" below...

I remember this event from the past couple of years. I should've been on the train as it was happening, would've taken some shots right with Mr. Hyman.

Really? Four eyes aren't enough?

do we really need more reasons to masturbate on the subway?

if Zach Hyman *giggle-snort* had any real talent, he wouldn't use a gimmick, like nudity, to get attention.

After checking out the website, I have to agree that this "art" is really lame !
Its gimmicky, and relies on shock value ( rather unsuccessfully, since its not really that shocking )
The exploitation or objectification of a nude woman by a man is cliche, common, and not the slightest bit thought provoking.

"Thought provoking" - maybe not.

But "Erection provoking" YES!

John,
You are killing me. The guy in this article is Hyman and the Queens co-op guy is Uhrin. Sure the spellings are off but are you making these people up? I've got the giggles now and I have to work to do! Stop it already! AW

LOL, at least i'm not the only one cracking up at these 2 things today. Hyman and female nude photography, musta been destiny.

My train rides are always so boring.
*sigh*

A guy masturbates on a train and women snap an impromptu mug shot. But a woman gets naked on a train and everybody's blasé about it? Dammit, where'd I put my camera!

Waiting for conviction and listing as sex offender.

B,B,G...Ohh nowwww I get it!
teehee

Shouldn't that be B,B,V?

That would have made way more sense :-)

I read it as Boobies!..."Boobies!...Gadzooks!
That or "G" Box.
*shrug*

If Spencer Tunick did this, the girl would have been the only one clothed.

I don't get how this is okay, or really, any different from the men who masturbate in public.

"The female body is a work of art. The male body is utilitarian. It's for gettin' around. It's like a Jeep."

Or so says men!

I have my own boobs, etc. Doesn't do much for me except it is very annoying. Glad I missed that trip.

Well it'd be no different if she were masturbating, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Women can masturbate on the subway by just shifting in their seat. Happens all the time.

Really? You don't see the difference between perverts jerkin off while leering at innocent women and a nude photo shoot? Really.

No, you see it. You just want to holler about something.

Nude photo shoot = yawn.

Now similar artsy photos of a naked guy on the subway - would that be okay too?

Hey Zach, I know you are out there somewhere reading this.

Your photographs are not very strong. Your website is all over the place, and completely pedestrian.

You should pursue a career in PR and hype as it seems you have skills in that area.

Plus, I think the subway work is selfish, and very self involved.

Take it easy, on that long road to the middle.

I'll be that Zach is not from NY and this qualifies as "edgy" back home in Omaha or Sioux City, or wherever he's from. He's got a Hassleblad, and advertises it, so his camera is worth more that his images. His images are showing @ a gallery that rates just above a framing shop, at best, during the summer season.

Good luck dude. Why not just get a flickr account. EVERYONE will love your work!!!

I guarantee that a guy with the name "Zach Hyman" is not from Omaha or Sioux City.

Jeffrey Hyman, however, was from Queens.

Zach Hyman should be brave enough to do this himself and risk being arrested for public indecency rather than paying an actress to do it for him.

I don't know what makes me more ill, the fact that I might have grabbed that pole after this woman rubber her bare a** all over it, or the fact that this woman probably got about a million diseases from rubbing her bare a** all over that pole.

You people are crazy. This is the best art I've ever seen and we should all rally around this fine young man to pursue his vision. (psst... downtown 4 train 'bout 8:45 weekdays: your masterpiece awaits)

everybody is entitled to his opinion.....
i've seen the show and this artist's work is not confined to "a photograph of a woman on the subway." there are photographs of men in decent exposures as i recall, maybe half of them, but when someone has an agenda, i guess, that is not what you are going to see. and there is also a self portrait of the artist.

after seeing the photographer on CNN wolf blitzer or campbell brown, you know he is the real deal. i guess, all i can say is--those who can, DO, and those can't, they just BLOG.

thanks to open minded people like mookie. i guess there is just a lot of jealousy out there. cheers!

Double standard works itself in society. This is no different than a men taking out his penis, but of course men are dirty people compared to the women sex.

Steven,
I think it's a double-standard too but not in the way you think it is. Please, for once, show us a man doing this.

Been in a ublic woman's bathroom lately??? don't underestimate the dirtiness of women , i'm ashamed at times.

No different than a man taking out his penis. Right. The existence of nude photo shoots makes every kind of sexual assault just fine, because they are the same.

Also, gays getting married will lead to men marrying dogs.

ART. I for one appreciate it

I heard Zach's nickname is 'Buster'.
nyuknyuknyuk

this bullshit is pissing me off. isn't is just so convenient for men to use the "women's bodies are artistic, but nobody wants to see a naked man" platitude? if these male subway masturbators were fawnish, hot guys then I, for one, would not consider it a crime...

Nude woman in public. That's NEVER been done before. What a fucking snooze.

Seriously. Naked chick on subway, how edgy. Yawn.

She is hot but loses her appeal on the train. Trains are so filthy and crowded.

do you have a blog or something because i want to read it

Not yet, perhaps I will in the future.

He's still learning our language in the mean time.

She's just a freelance subway breast feeder.

You all really find time to comment/complain about a naked girl? Damn, I'm either out of touch or gay....it's not as if this is B. Arthur.....

But is this less or more revolting than the Lil Wayne art show? I'd say they're about even (i.e., worthless).

Let's get some hardcore Ron Athey shit going, then we'll talk.

Dang. Why do I always miss the good shit. LOL.

As OK as this is, albeit dull as dirt.

As OK as this is, albeit dull as dirt.

NICE!!!!

Can we have naked strippers on the 1 train too? Please?

So another perv male photographs nude women for a living and tries to pass off his low-rent porn as art. How original, and dull as dirt.

Hyman's series of nudes in public only feature women because, as he explains, "photographing females in public is easier than males. People see a naked woman and they smile. They see a penis and they freak out."
...... he said, as one woman started screaming and an elderly man next to her got the shakes.

I was just wondering. Where are her clothes? After all, she must have been wearing something before she got on the subway.

I guess the photographer has them draped around his neck.
