Jayson Blair, Infamous Times "Reporter," Now Coaching Lives

082009blair.jpg Having blown one of the most coveted jobs in journalism through sheer mendacity, laziness, and drug abuse, former New York Times reporter Jayson Blair has found work coaching others on how to live their lives. It was over six years ago that Blair caused a huge scandal at the Times, after it was discovered that he'd fabricated a number of articles, deeply embarrassing the paper of record and bringing down executive editor Howell Raines and managing editor Gerald M. Boyd with him. But now Blair's turned the beat around and is certified to coach lives, at a mental health practice in northern Virginia—here's his website. Blair tells the AP, "People say, 'Wait a minute. You're a life coach?' That makes no sense. Then they think about my life experiences and what I've been through and they say 'Wait a minute. It does make sense.'" And Blair's boss, psychologist Michael Oberschneider, coos, "Very few people can go through what he did and come back. He really is a success story." Unfortunately, that's exactly what Raines thought before Blair went and burned his house down.

personally, I wouldn't believe anything he says.

Got to give the guy credit - he's one gifted con artist. In a few years I'm sure we'll be hearing about his new career as an evangelist / reverend.

What a hoot that was to watch the NY Times' affirmative-action hiring policy come back and bite them on the ass.

Indeed. I remember reading Bob Herbert's flustered column claiming that race had nothing to do with the Blair scandal, even after Howell Raines was quoted as saying he didn't feel comfortable confronting Blair because Blair was Black and Raines was from Alabama. But someplace, somewhere, another nail went into the coffin of White guilt.

Before I even clicked on the comments I knew you douchebags were going to jump right on the race thing. You always do-- you can't help it.

It's compulsive behavior.

If name-calling is the most substantive argument you can make, you've already lost.

And "twat" is a mysoginistic term. 1:1

don't give him more ammo with your typos!

Blair looks like such a nice guy.

The fact is Blair was hired as part of an affirmative action policy.

Now why is it that the same people who are so in favor of affirmative action get so upset when somebody simply acknowledges that a particular person got where they are thanks to affirmative action? Wasn't that the plan? You're in favor of something that you are ashamed to admit actually exists. Anyway, it's too early in the day to try and unravel liberal logic.

just admit it already, you're still angry that abe let those evil blacks out of the fields.

They should not have been brought to those fields in the first place.

What you're ignoring is that Blair was hired as part of a flawed affirmative action policy. They didn't even verify his education.

Affirmative action is not about hiring unqualified black people over qualified white people. But that's what you'd like to think it really is, which is why you've got such a boner for this incident.

facts don't matter here, ides is only looking for some affirmation for his policy of racism.

Is that all you do all day is squawk "racism" incessantly like some deranged parrot?

funny comment mr. affirmative action affirmative action affirmative action affirmative action.

Blair was obviously extremely qualified.

2 words, affirmative action

criticize a black man, its a hate crime

Perfect solution for him. What "life coach" isn't a total bullshit artist that fakes empathy, fakes direction, and lives by a set of fake ideals?

This guy is an ass clown. In the NY Times debacle Blair laid blame to everyone except himself and now he's a 'life coach'. Pitty the poor soul who's life is so messed up that it warrants coaching from such a 'man'.

I am a tad surprised to see him actually doing anything other than working a glory hole in the men's room at Penn Station..
