Allegedly Skanky Model Apologizes to Blogger, But Will Sue

Google has complied with a court order to identify, to the best of the company's ability, a blogger who created a website Skanks in NYC devoted to insulting a former cover girl. The model, Liskula Cohen, obtained the IP address and the email address of her accuser yesterday and was able to deduce her enemy's identity. Appearing on Good Morning America today, Cohen said the blogger is a vague acquaintance: "Thank God it was her… she's an irrelevant person in my life. She's just somebody that, whenever I would go out to a restaurant, to a party in New York City… She was just that girl that was always there." Perhaps the pot has been calling the kettle skank all along?

She called the woman immediately, and Cohen actually apologized for anything she might have done to spark the skankusations, which included bilious descriptions of Cohen as a "psychotic, lying, whoring ... skank ... Desperation seeps from her soul, if she even has one." But the blogger denied any involvement in Skanks in NYC (which has since been taken down) and insisted they only speak to each other in the presence of their attorneys. The Post, for what it's worth, published her email address, and reports that "Kamouya1@yahoo.com did not return an e-mail for comment."

Cohen's planning a defamation suit against the blogger and says the website damaged her career. But the lawsuit isn't "to make money. We're in it because something was done that was wrong." Her lawyer believes the court's decision sends a message that the Internet is no longer a safe harbor of defamatory language and predicts, "It will change the way some people will act on the Internet." Any thoughts on that, Gothamist commenters?

"Mommy, the mean lady called me bad names on the internet."

Not suing them for money, really? Get real.

  • NannyState

She doesn't look that bad so why is she an ex-model? Instead of suing people, she should get back up on that horse...

  • ANGRYGOD11

Skank: Someone who makes a lot more money than you,

goes to better clubs and restaurants than you,

has better looking friends than you,

lives in better apartment than you,

uses better quality drugs than you

and has the nerve to never have any interest in sleeping with you.

  • What's the difference between how this anonymous blogger treated Cohen and how Perez Hilton (Mario Armando Lavandeira) treats celebrities/models every day?

I'm actually asking having not ever frequented Hilton's Web site.

    They seem quite similar, no?

  • West69

I didn't think of her as a skunk, but now that she became a reason to limit further our privacy on line I think she is truly a skunk.

There can be only one reason why she has pursued this through the court: the blogger clearly must have nailed it, Nothing hurts more than the truth.

By the way, nice going pretending that really it was a blog that ruined her career.

Now I am going to close this before VanessaNYC, aka skunk's admirer or probably best friend kills me too with her soft sarcasm.

  • Quidnam

I seriously can't believe that Internet privacy has just taken a significant hit on account of these stupid, petty bitches.

  • VanessaNYC

    Dear John Del Signore,

Would you have added this line if the author of the offending website was reveled to be a man?

"Perhaps the pot has been calling the kettle skank all along?"

  • hotstepper

wow...way to blast onto the scene set all those evildoers straight. we're all ears to your enlightened perspective on this oh-so-important issue. you're like Maureen Dowd and Robocop all in one, but alas, you've forgotten one jewel of information: nobody cares.

  • Dead Himmler

Thank you for chiming in Liskula. I want to emphasize that I never stated nor thought that you are a skank or a whore.

  • JacqueMehoff

ha ha, it's like the argument on the old howard stern show on who's a supermodel. alien fred vs. HS. of course, almost every one of his staff married a listener/fan.

  • Trilby16

"Super" model? Is every model "super" now, no matter how minor, the way everyone in a porno is a porn "star"?

  • ur doing it rong

    I'd hit it

  • Dead Himmler

Why is everyone down on skanks and whores? Life would be alot less fun without them. I feel that they are way underated. I should know because I used to be married to one.

Why is this a story even? With all the 24 hour news channels and the internet, in this generation it seems like the media just has to find anything to write or talk about - even if it's stupid and pointless.

  • jaycjay

Well partly it's a story in the general media, of course, because anytime words like "model," "skank," and "whoring" can be used in a single paragraph, it's a story.

But beyond that, this is really is a significant legal story with potentially large implications. Courts have generally leaned towards siding with free speech protections in similar situations, and to have done so here would have further strengthened the notion that "on the Internet anything goes." The big part of the story isn't that she's a model or that she was called a "skank," it's that a court ordered Google to reveal what it knows about a blogger's identity.

The blogger's contention that a blog serves "as a modern-day forum for conveying personal opinions, including invective and ranting" and should never be treated as a statement of fact would have been huge, had it been upheld by the court.

  • ides_of_march

I didn't think it was even possible to make it in the modeling business without being a skank and a whore.

  • VanessaNYC

    Ides Of March,

Have I ever told you what an outstanding human being you are? It's amazing. Everyone should model themselves after you. Your comments are always so heartwarming and intelligent.

  • nicemarmot

"Supermodel fights back"...huh what? How is this chick a supermodel?

  • JenChungsBaby

She should sue the doctor that made her lips look like that.

  • sexisicilian

Yeah I agree with those lips, why do we care so much about these losers ... whahh so she is not a skank ???

    hahahahaha:)

  • VanessaNYC

It's possible that her face looks distorted because she was attacked and her face was cut up. Seriously. Also you're a piece of crap.

  • JenChungsBaby

    You should sue your parents.

  • hotstepper

no, no, no...of course it is most certainly not about money! lawsuits rarely are. it's about truth, honor, and chivalry!

  • ixvnyc

    Just like hand granades

  • hotstepper

    and Chuck D.

  • ak

    stupid whore.

  • Spirit of 76

"It will change the way some people will act on the Internet." Any thoughts on that, Gothamist commenters?

I think you already know the answer to that, as proven by some of the comments above.

  • VanessaNYC

Wow. You're such a good person.

  • ak

I was joking, as I assume John Del Signore was when he followed Cohen's "It will change the way some people act on the internet" quote with a query towards his (often crassly behaved internet) audience. Obviously, I actually have no idea whether this woman is A. stupid or B. a whore.

  • John Del Signore

Ak, fyi certain commenters have lost their sense of sarcasm. It happens when you spend all your time alone under a bridge.

  • Spirit of 76

Oh, really, o wise one? FYI, what you posted was a rhetorical question, not sarcasm. Sucks to be ignorant, eh?

Also FYI, you can get really good WiFi reception under a bridge.

  • ak

    Dear Spirit of 76,

I think John was referring to my (thinly veiled) sarcasm in the original comment here, versus his (and thank you for this) "rhetorical question" in the article above.

Leading me to ask - just how much does it suck to be ignorant, eh?

Thanks for playing, better luck next time.
