Poll: 77% Of NYers Agree Albany Is Messed Up

2009_08_coups.jpg Today's not so shocking poll numbers: Quinnipiac says that 77% of NY State voters say that the NY State government is "dysfunctional" while 58% say it's "the worst" or "among the worst" in the nation. Oddly enough, 2% of respondents say that it's the "best" in the country, while 28% think it's "among the best"—maybe those people are from Illinois or California. Some more stats: "Voters disapprove 72 - 18 percent of the way the State Legislature is handling its job, the legislature's lowest overall score ever. Forty-nine percent of New York State voters say that almost everyone in the State Senate - including their own." Quinnipiac's Maurice Carroll said, "Dysfunctional is practically a synonym for the New York State Legislature and voters want a change. While voters tend to like their own legislators, almost half of New Yorkers are ready to throw out their own state senator in a general house-cleaning." Take heart, challengers.

"Oddly enough, 2% of respondents say that it's the "best" in the country"

2% of respondents are state government officials.

Or just Espada family members.

...and the other 23% are the senate cronies.

I want a recount! ONLY 77%??? How many espada's were working at the polls??

Overthrow these fuckers.

I'm concerned about the 23% who do not think the NY State government is dysfunctional. Do they listen to the news? Can they identify the governor and the state attorney general? How many have heard of Pedro Espada?

In short, I am curious about what knowledge the people have who say that everything is fine. I suspect that their degree of knowledge on this issue is minimal. If that's the case, then our democratic process of representative government is failing.

2 party system, either way we win and you loose.

And we lose too. Again and again.

Keep voting for the 2 entrenched parties - and things will never change. (Despite the appearances of the 2 parties being adversarial) they prop each other up, and they count on the public (and the Mass Media) never to think outside the 2 party system.

do not vote for any incumbants in the next election. we need new blood!

I completely agree. If that doesn't work then we together and stage a coup. They're all complete shit up there and its time to simply start over. I know this will cause massive problems but these people should not be running the state and certainly not getting paid what they are.

I'm seriously uninterested in even learning about any NY State politicians short of the US Senate or Reps (or Cuomo for gov) at this time. I knew there are a few good ones, but my trust is running on empty. Thank the NY government for my apathy.

Those 23% should be dropped in the middle of the ocean.

There are a lot of people that make a living off these guys.
