Weiner Tries to Block Press from Health Care Town Hall

2009_08_weinerhel.jpg These health care town hall forums make for great television, what with all the red faced patriots eager to water the tree of liberty and save America's seniors from Obamacare death panels. So why would Anthony Weiner try to stop TV news crews from documenting last night's raucous health care meeting at the IBEW hall in Fresh Meadows? CBS 2 says Weiner's aides told them they couldn't come in, and when the congressman arrived, he got "snippy" with the camera crew, telling them, "This isn't for Channel 2. This is for my constituents."

When the reporter countered that the event was a public forum, Weiner shot back, "Settle down buddy. This is not about Channel 2 News. As much as you might think the earth revolves around you, it doesn't." But the crew was ultimately allowed in to capture the standard footage of red faced ranting, which eventually subsided into on-topic questions, like "How are we going to pay for it? And please don't tell me it's going to come out of my pocket." Weiner told the audience he backs a single-payer system and that the money to pay for it could come from the profits of health insurance companies and overhead. Oh, and revenue from organ harvesting!

But seriously, here's a good health care reform FAQ you can send to grandma.

Here's an idea on how to pay for it: NO MORE FUCKING ILLEGAL WARS. With what we've spent on Iraq already, we could've had one pretty amazing healthcare system.

Here's an idea on how to pay for it: NO MORE FUCKING ILLEGAL ALIENS.

    Fixed it.

"With what we've spent on Iraq already, we could've had one pretty amazing healthcare system."

Yeah, especially with that 500 tons of yellowcake saddam had, we could have free NUCLEAR MEDICINE during the next 9/11 attack.

    Leftists are such morons.

Thanks for the link to the Baltimore Sun Q&A

    http://www.baltimoresun.com/health/health-care/bal-healthcare-faq,0,5260471.story

But I did find this answer a bit suspicious:

How will we pay for this sweeping health care reform?

Two-thirds of the cost of reform will come from reallocating money, paid for by taxpayers, already in the system that isn't being spent wisely.

So there's money in the system that isn't being spent "wisely". And somebody has known about this (since this money is planned to be used for the new plan) - but for some reason nothing has been done about this mis-spending. And when we need this money for the new healthcare plan... only then will this "unwise" spending will be corrected!

    Math sounds fuzzy to me.

I forgot, You CAN OPT OUT of MEDICARE.

you sign the postcard and return it back to them.

so there you have it, if they don't like this socialist system they can get Health Insurance on their own through the Open Market. hahahahahahaha.

  • JacqueMehoff

I don't suppose these protesters ever heard the terms Pre-Existing condition, Pre-Authorization or even Timely filing of claim. Because if they did they would know how messed up our current system is for everyone, patients and providers.

  • felixthecat2

Bloomberg bus his people to speak in favor of extending term limits without a PUBLIC referendum. We saw the Doe Fund and the Harlem Success Bus bus people to the hearing. Bloomberg is a republican fucker.

  • grandzu

Where were these protests when Bush screwed up Medicare by creating Part D geared to raise Rx companies profits?

Weiner should just have them sign an

">oath of loyalty before letting them come in.

  • JacqueMehoff

channel 7 local news just showed a meeting at a senior citizens center, much more subdued, all elderly citizens.

of course, they really shouldn't be worried since they have Medicare.

With this new healthcare reform maybe those TV ads for those third party medicare health plans will stop. you know those with all the people who's head turn when they hear their plan will PAY YOU $20 BACK! that's all well and good except your RX deductible will be $25 for Ea. RX. Don't fall for these ads, go for Straight Medicare. I worked in patient accounts and seen the headaches in getting reimbursed.

  • Wza

    What a Weiner.

What? No one else said it.

    :/

  • jpeditor

"what with all the red flag useful idiots for socialism eager to cut down the tree of liberty and send America's patriots/seniors/taxpayers/republicans to the Obamacare death panels...."

There I fixed it for you.

SIMPLE QUESTION: why should we take obamacare when politicians AND UNIONS can opt out?

  • Mr Mel

You can bet everyone of those protesters have medical insurance.

  • schadenfreudian mensch

Wait until they learn what won't be covered. Once you start costing the insurance company's bottom line, you're as good as dead.

  • BongoBoy

Ironically, the WCBS camera operator who shot the story is a member of an IBEW local.

And Weiner [aka Schumer, Junior] NOT wanting a camera crew around? Someone must have slipped something into his morning coffee.

  • Homer2323

'As much as you might think the earth revolves around you, it doesn't.'

    Projecting much?

    Weiner is about 5'5 100lbs

  • JenChungsBaby

No, I've met him. More like 6'1" and 100 lbs.

  • arrogantnative

If he supports a single payer system, how would taxing insurance companies do anything towards raising revenue? If we had a single payer system, there would be no more insurance companies.

  • SP

"If we had a single payer system, there would be no more insurance companies."

Not true. You would still need insurance for your car, your house, your boat, etc etc. They would just have to get out of the health business. Which would be a good thing. There should be ZERO profit motive involved in providing care. Decisions as to what procedures and medications are needed for a patient should only be up to doctors, not a board room full of executives whose loyalties are to their multimillion dollar salaries and stock options, and their share prices on the stock market.

  • schadenfreudian mensch

And isn't not having a health insurance company rule over whether I live or die a good thing?

  • Toby von Meistersinger

If you don't let the media in to what is supposedly a public event, it makes you look like you are hiding something even if you are not.

  • JacqueMehoff

or, have questions and comments in writing.

just like you have to justify why you need this more expensive drug your doctor prescribed or why you need this treatment now and not six months later when it could be too late and your options are slim to none.

  • Dirk

I don't blame Weiner for getting snippy. These townhall meetings have be circuses.

Is it too much to ask that everyone calm down and have an intelligent debate?

  • NannyState

Their website; Townhall.com is the funnel for these morons. It's totally online Glenn Beck for the Walmartians. I don't blame that wormy cocksucker Weiner for trying to block the press either, who wants to see a thousand Bier Hall Putsches on tv?

  • hotstepper

not with republican cronies organizing small, frothing lynch mobs to pose as concerned citizens to heckle politicians and derail honest debate.

  • arrogantnative

You're an idiot if yuo think that all of the people going to town halls that are against health care reform are republican organized mobs.

  • hotstepper

"The vans carry the logo "Americans for Prosperity," one of the Washington front groups orchestrating the fight against universal health."

and no where in my comment did i say "all." reading comprehension fail. try again.

  • hotstepper
  • endlessummer

I think there has been pretty signifcant evidence that the protesters are being bussed in by K street lobbist and the like. I think the media needs to step it up, they seem to be unwilling to debunk even the most outrageous claims. They treat them as legitmite arguments meanwhile ignoring the ppl who are really behind all this

  • Dirk

Edit: These townhall meetings have become circuses.

  • Nyctini11

Maybe he tried to block them just cause they were at the IBEW hall, sh!t if reporters got in and saw the corruption that runs abundant there, the IBEW would be screwed!

I am however still willing to part with a kidney for $20k, if we're talking organ harvesting and all.

  • JacqueMehoff

ditto, and take it easy grandma, no one is taking your Medicare away. the single payer system is really the best.

and grandma, did you see all the crap you have to read through to get your Part D coverage? notice all those companies looking for your money and still don't give you a choice of RX unless your MD specifically asks for it by writing?? that means they don't want to pay for your brand name drugs. that means more money in their pocket.

  • NannyState

Funny thing is that the worst possible outcome for these republican teabagger idiots is to let them have exactly what they want. Don't change a thing, let Grandma die collecting aluminum cans to buy her osteoporosis pills.

  • SP

    They'll find someone to blame.

  • nicemarmot

I'd want to keep the news out because there's already plenty of documentation of what utter morons most Americans are. Do we really need to be even more embarrassed?
