  • From the Gothamist Newsmap: Falling bricks at W 15th St & 6th Ave in Manhattan, a foot chase at 108 Ave & 157 St in Queens, and an armed robbery at 86st & W 7th St in Brooklyn.
  • After being indicted for racketeering, three leaders of United Brotherhood of Carpenters the were ousted from their union positions. The NY chapter was also put under "emergency trusteeship."
  • A man went missing while swimming in the Rockaways at 3 a.m. yesterday; the Post says he was drunk.
  • A man committed suicide inside the Palisades Center mall by jumping from the fourth floor.
  • Awww—Real Housewife of Atlanta Nene really loves Anderson Cooper, leading Gawker to wonder, "She's either a completely delusional or a woman in possession of an over-the-top level of self-confidence who genuinely thinks she can make a 40-ish gay man (Allegedly!) come over to play for the other team.
  • A Bed-Stuy housing project says they have gone 8 months without hot water; the Housing Authority says the issue is because many residents have illegal washing machine hook-ups.
  • Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is apparently looking for four interns to help with some sort of campaign (Cuomo still says he's just running for AG re-election). PolitickerNY notes, "Although he has no opponent and tons of money, the ad says interns will help with 'fundraising operations and other campaign tasks.'"
  • Two things we learned about writer Colson Whitehead: He hasn't driven a car since 1986 (driver's ed in high school) and his mortal enemy is "That guy who invented Crocs."
  • And apparently America is going to run out of sweet, sweet sugar—so the giant corporations tell us.

Is that what was going on at 15th & 6th this morning? I couldn't tell..firetruck blocking off the avenue, sidewalk blocked with yellow tape, and rubble being shoveled.

Less sugar and fat would do this country a world of good.

Less high fructose corn syrup would do the country good. It's in *everything*. Removing the sugar tarriff would be a sensible move. Why should the whole country pay more for food to protect a small group of rich people who pay off congress?

I can't live the button-down life like you, Marge. I want it all! The terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles! Sure, I might offend a few of the blue noses with my cocky stride and musky odors - Oh I'll never be the darling of the so-called "City Fathers" who cluck their tounges, stroke their beards, and talk about "What's to be done with this Homer Simpson?!

WOW corruption in the Unions, who'd a thunk it.

Mall suicides are so...Hot Topic.
