Same Building, Different Year

phpjs84yKPM.jpg

Re-Brooklyn, which hosts images comparing past and present day buildings in the borough, has just posted a cleaner shot of the Norwegian Evangelical Church... or as you may know it: Strauss Auto. The interesting thing here is that if you look at the trim on the side wall, you'll see that the building is the same. An old NYPL image points out the original photo was taken in 1930, and the structure is on 15th Street and 4th Avenue.

Not a heck of a lot of Norwegians in Brooklyn these days. (Not a lot of Norwegians in Norway either come to think of it.)

in the last few years they demolished another church or related building just behind that one to build...luxary condos. that whole area of bklyn - gowanus - has been shitted on by money greedy people forever

  • How many churches used to exist in this city? I used to live in an apartment that was a converted church. The only hint of this fact were the ceilings inside.

    at least cars actually exist.

The evolution of the building sort of makes sense. Americans now worship the automobile.
