Hillary "Crankypants Suit" Congo Crisis Continues

081209clinton.jpg Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's marathon tour of Africa was supposed to spotlight pressing issues like AIDS, rape, and other atrocities, but those boring old talking points have been eclipsed by her furious response to a Congolese student's maladroit question about what "Mr. Clinton thinks through the mouth of Mrs. Clinton." Yesterday, State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley futilely tried to shift the media's lowbrow focus, explaining that Clinton perceived the question as sexist because it asked for "the views of two men, but not [hers]." But when pressed further Crowley sighed, "I wasn't there, okay? She reacted to what she heard." A source tells the Daily News, "She's tired. She's in the rape capital of the world. It's a long trip." Okay, but neither Clinton nor the student has commented on the contretemps yet, so this can probably get us through a couple more news cycles! In the meantime, there are other important issues to discuss—like why isn't Madam Secretary dressing to impress on her Africa tour?! As Newsday wonders, "Can some great stylist step in and help?" And the Daily Show dubbed the incident "Crankypants Suit"; watch the funny segment below:

She's still the Antichrist. Scary, almost as much as Palin. Antichrist v Palin in 2012? Congo here I come!

People in the west don't know how awful the Congo is, it's a hellhole down there. One of the worst parts in all of Africa, not too mention its most remote.

  • Tgirl

    think she's bitter??? naaaa....

  • NannyState

She's just going bongo in the Congo.

  • ides_of_march

    Perhaps she really was tired.

    Broom lag is a killer.

It's not about going back to Condi - it's about Hillary and her actions - of which the World has now seen to be quite unprofessional and vindictive towards the reporter and her husband in a way.

  • Spirit of 76

Yeah, I guess you all would be so much happier if we went back to the days of completely styled and completely facile Condi Rice.

  • jchez

No matter what she says, she has gotten ahead in life through her marriage to a political genius.

It's amazing that this angry woman is our nation's top diplomat. I'd rather not have her answer the phone at 3AM; she could start WWIII.

I agree. Even if I was often against his policies, I recognize Bill Clinton's undeniable charm and first rate talent as a politician. He's a natural. Hillary, on the other hand, has all the people skills of a spitting cobra.

I was never thrilled have Hillary as our senator, but in fact she got along very well with other senators, including Republicans. We all might be better off if she remained a senator and someone else was running the State Department.

Hillary, despite her intelligence and experience, will always be a carpetbagger in my book. She took advantage of the democratic bias in NY state, and pushed aside many qualified local politicians to get advance her career at our expenses. The loss of 9/11 funds is probably a direct result of Karl Rove's decision to try to prevent Hillary from looking good in the media.

I wish her well for the sake of the county, but she hurt New York State - and so she will never have my support.

How come so few mayors were able to take advantage of this Democratic bias over the last 16 or so years?

"How come so few mayors were able to take advantage of this Democratic bias over the last 16 or so years?"

Because of the NY Senate is similar to the US senate in that representation is not based on population, but is spread evenly regardless of same.

Upstate was Red country for decades (ending in 2008), but NY city area is over 50% of the NY State population. Therefore state-wide elections would generally tend democratic (notwithstanding Al D'Amato's Long Island based political machine), but the State Senate, which controls a big chunk of NYC dollars, was run by Joe Bruno, who short changed our city schools and services for years in order to line his and his 'friends' pockets.

    Hope that helps!

And I'm pretty sure Nita Lowey would have run and won in

2000 if Hillary had stayed home in Arkansas.

Because in the past 16 years, the Democratic candidates for mayor had no real accomplishments to boast of. What did Freddy Ferrer or Ruth Messenger ever do? Mark Green? The public advocates office is a joke. The only candidate worthy enough to have a shot at the office did (Dinkins), and he had the early 90's working against him.

  • ANGRYGOD11

Dinkins was the useless Manhattan Borough President. He accomplished nothing, except dodge taxes for years.

  • Quenepa

She's tired again? Wasn't she tired on the campaign trail when she was saying she was shot at in Yugoslavia or whatever country that was - some President she would have been.

  • ides_of_march

Awkward comments by other people are exactly the kind of thing a good diplomat is supposed to deal with skillfully. This woman is a rank amateur and only got anywhere politically by trading on her husband's name.

  • yytttt

the mouth is the part Mr. Clinton still likes.
