Diane Schuler's Brother Allies Himself With Taconic SUV Victims

2009_08_hances.jpg Throughout the aftermath of the Taconic crash that killed eight, one major party has remained silent—Warren and Jackie Hance, parents of the three girls who died inside the car driven by their aunt, Diane Schuler. And while the couple remains mum to the media, their actions are beginning to do the talking for them, with word that they have reached out to the Bastardi family to meet and exchange condolences. A lawyer for the Hances has also revealed that the couple plan to give any money from a memorial fund for their daughters over to the Bastardis. The Post is even going so far as publishing speculation from the Bastardis' lawyer that "[the Hance family lawyer] told me they would prefer not to be in touch with or connected to the Schuler family" and were particularly upset with bloviating, publicity-hungry lawyer Dominic Barbara, who was hired by Daniel Schuler and quickly launched a public defense following Diane Schuler's toxicology results. Meanwhile police continue to nail down a timeline of the fateful drive, now revealing that video of Diane Schuler at a McDonald's at 10:30 a.m. showed her "acting normally" two hours before her disoriented call to her brother.

Come on state police. You are still working on a timeline? For god's sake the whole timeline could have been developed within hours, if not days after the event. What gives?

You call up the cell phone provider and tell them, "We are the New York State Police investigating a potential homicide. At what time and where did the calls come from?"

Part two: What time did the driver leave point A and arrive at point B? What time did driver leave point B and arrive at point C and make call? At what time did her brother call NYSP and what was the message that he left? What time did driver crash?

In addition when did other drivers alert the authorities that there was an erratic driver?

If this is going too fast for the New York State Police perhaps they need to regroup.

I think the Police know all the answers to those questions. For some reason they're not releasing the info at this time.

If you think the police can just call up a phone company and get subscriber information/records over the phone with no legal process, you are out of your mind. The phone company won't give that stuff up without a subpoena unless you can describe why it's a life/death emergency and even then they are not obligated to give it up if they don't feel comfortable with the circumstances.

To get that stuff from the phone company they would need a grand jury subpoena and even if the phone company expedited the processing it would probably take 1-2 weeks for the police to get it.

On a second note I feel deep remorse for the Hance family who lost three beautiful girls in the tragic event. And for the innocents in the other vehicle.

The husband completely lost my sympathy a while back.

this is so sad. the husband doesn't want to believe that his wife could be capable of something so horrific...how could someone you love do something like this? he's searching for an explanation that makes sense to him, unfortunately at the expense of his extended family. im sure if we were each in his position we would all be searching for the answers that make sense. The police always have their story, he just wants the situation to be different... tho it looks like he is wrong at the moment, you never really know, i guess.

Are you on crack? The dude is a jerk who's HIDING SOMETHING. Hmmm, what causes this kind of total meltdown on the part of the wife? A marital dispute? Secret alcoholics don't go on a rampage with their kids unless they want to end it all for themself and those kids. She did just that and the lovely Danny ain't talking so guess what? He's a total piece of shit, and a liar, and a possible accessory to seven counts of homicide.

Just because Diane Schuler acted normally at MacDonald's doesn't mean she didn't have alcohol or marijuana in her system. I doubt the MacDonald's employees gave her a breathlyzer test. She may have been drinking before she arrived at MacDonald's, but not have consumed enough yet to affect her behavior.

According to the New York Post, Daniel Schuler and his attorney are now claiming that Diane used Ambesol for a toothache, which caused the accident. The drug company that produces Ambesol admits that their product contains minor amounts of alcohol, but a different type of alcohol than what is found in vodka. The more ridiculous claims Mr. Schuler and Attorney Barbara make up about what caused the accident, the less sympathy I have for Mr. Schuler. I don't blame the Hances one bit for being angry at Mr. Schuler because of the stupid excuses he and Attorney Barbara create because they don't want to accept the fact that Diane Schuler was drunk and high when she killed all those kids and the three men.

Does anyone ever wonder why the media never mentions the family of Mr. Longo, who was also killed in the crash. He was one of the Bastardis' friends. I wonder if Mr. Longo did not have a family.

There are a couple of other things that don't make sense to me either. Like, they both left the campground for home around the same time - he and the dog went directly home, she and the kids stopped for breakfast. Usually when my family and i travel, we stay in contact, if not follow each other, and wouldn't you think that #1, if Diane Schuler wasn't feeling well or something was going on, she would have called her husband before/in addition to her brother?! and #2, if it is a 2 hour trip that she could do with her eyes closed, why wasn't the husband concerned when four hours later she was nowhere near home????????

1.Nothing seems to add up in this most bizarre case.
2.If we accept the fact that she was intoxicated/inebriated and smoked marijuana, then case closed. But not even a drunk or weed-smoker is so stupid to guzzle {in short time span}......not with children....no, I don't buy it that this mother was that irresponsible !
3.When Diane, her husband, and the children packed and loaded to depart the camp, the owner of the campground, Ann Scott, said she was physically near Diane. She smelled no alcohol nor detected someone incoherent.
4.They departed campgrounds at approx. 0900hrs. Her husband Daniel was in a separate vehicle.
5.They all rendezvoused shortly at a McDonald's......and then departed at 1040hrs.
6.Servers at McDonald's said they noticed nothing strange or any unusual behavior.
7.The drive from Big Mac's to their home is about 2-hr drive !!!!!
8.Daniel drove on ahead ???? Most husbands would follow a wife/kids....strange.
9.Instead of 2-hrs later being home, she was now only turning on the the parkway....but first she'd called her brother at a pull off telling him she was sick.....why not call her husband ???
10. Why hadn't Daniel called when the 2-hr had lapsed to check where she was and why she wasn't home ???
11. Did a McDonald's employee, pulling a prank spike her meal ? I doubt it!
12.Did her husband spike her meal.....plant a vodka bottle, and now sit back to allow this God-Awful act to unfold ???
13.Something-something-something is "fishy" with this Daniel !!!!

I totally agree with homerbward... there are so many odd facets of this event. After reading tons of news articles about this case, I'm suspicious that the husband Daniel is involved. And he hasn't exactly jumped to the police office to share information about that morning. His behavior is strange, even some of his earlier comments to the media were odd, claiming how ideal his wife was, and he'd 'marry her again'. These are philosophical words, not words from an actual broken heart.
