14-Year-Old In Kitten-Killing Gets 18 Months In Juvie

2009_08_tiglily.jpg A belated followup: The 14-year-old girl who was sentenced to 18 months in juvenile jail on animal cruelty and burglary charges for killing a kitten by baking it in a 500-degree oven. While 17-year-old Cheyenne Cherry's name has been attached to the crime, apparently it was the 14-year-old who put kitten Tiger Lily in the oven and turned on the gas, according to the Daily News. For her part, Cherry pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated animal cruelty and criminal trespass (the pair were ransacking a former friend's Bronx apartment); according to a tipster, her July 31 sentencing was adjourned because the judge wanted to read her probation record—she's been arrested previously for holding up someone with a BB gun to steal someone dog and robbing someone's iPod at gunpoint. Cherry's next court date is September 2.

"holding up someone with a BB gun to steal someone dog"

Steal a dog? What for? She has a bigger oven?

  • Vatalya

How horrible! Where the heck are the parents in all this? Sounds like Conduct Disorder. No freakin conscience, whatsoever.

i recall some time ago, chung stating you're day would have to start at 7 am; that kinda quelled the proofreader rumbles for a while.

  • yytttt

i missed that post. it just took me several re-readings to understand what she was writing. and as griff pointed out, I should be using Firefox myself cause it automatically spellchecks.

  • Spellcheck in Firefox is one thing, spellcheck/grammar check in blog software is something else.

  • yytttt

I'm sure IE and Firefox have some sort of grammer check plugin you can download. I'd look into that.

    Dear Gothamist:

I would like to offer my services as a proofreader and editor to your fine website. Embarrassing errors be gone! My fee is $250 per month, or $5 per error - whichever is greater.

    Let's help each other out.

  • Hey, that's an offer to come aboard full time, 24-7? Send me your resume!

  • blondeinthecity

i find just as many errors in the nytimes... and those articles arent half as entertaining.

  • yetanotherdamneduselessaccount

You're off to a promising start.

Offering yourself to a website and not its staff?

Ending a sentence with a preposition?

All jokes aside, most would probably prefer these to the horrendous writing we see from the chief editor. Whenever I see a mangled (and I mean MANGLED to the point of being almost incomprehensible) headline, I know who wrote it.

    Comment to matukonyc,

    not Jo

  • TrippinJoJo

didnt see the correction Amanda Harlech...disregard my response to you...comments here are out of order...out of whack as well.

  • Snoopy

Mafukoidioto why don't we throw you in a cage with a few large cats at the Bronx zoo and see if they like and care about your outlook in life?

One defenseless cat versus two total fucking pieces of shit who will never contribute any good to society and only be a tax burden for honest hardworking people for decades. Now who would you like living next to you?

  • matukonyc

The fact that there is more empathy for the cat than a fellow human being is the reason our society has become unlivable and its children full of hate.

It is my opinion that the authors of the first three comments here also lead "worthless" lives.

    Reply to matukonyc

  • Amanda Harletsch

jo, where do you come with such lame conclusions?!

How is that you equal comments to animal cruelty with hate for human kind, please expand on this "logic".

  • TrippinJoJo

ok what do you suggest is equally just for those brats who threw a live animal in an oven and baked it to death?

Please offer some "logic" to me. please

  • DanielJ

Yep Matuko, because I don't feel pity for two bratty killers my life is obviously "worthless."

  • Mr. Know-It-All

Uh, I'm sorry matukonyc, empathy for a kitten who did nothing, or for a "fellow human being" who tossed the kitten into an oven and burned it alive? Hmmm...let me see...

I have no fellowship with, and no empathy for, a "human being" who tortures animals. You are, of course, free to choose your own fellows.

  • felixthecat2

Whoppi Goldberg? refusing to criticize someone because they are your same race is racism and Whoppi defended Michael Vick because he is black. I stand up for what is right and moral. That poor kitten is worth 100000 times more than those 2 fugly ghetto trash.

  • cutlass

Are you for real? We're supposed to feel "empathy" for these idiots?

Our society isn't unlivable, nor are our children "full of hate." Two unbelievable morons committed a pointless and disgusting act of stupidity, for which they are being reviled. Moreover, this isn't their first act of stupidity, and anyone over the age of 5 realizes that it is unlikely to be their last.

People that do things like this should be subjected to their own morality. People that deny individual responsibility in these matters should be struck dumb.

  • felixthecat2

That kitten would never do anything perverse and hurt society as these 2 fugly ghetto trash. Yes, they are part of the Human specie but are not HUMANE and are worthless. End their life since they do more harm to society.

  • tmz is evil

    Hey, felixthecat2,

A woman killed 8 people last week while DUI, 5 of them freaks. You got this outraged then, too?

    Typical FREAK.

  • TrippinJoJo

throw her into the hudson...juvie hall wont do shit to her. If anything it'll inflate her ego and she'll be in and out of jail for the rest of her life.

    fucking stupid runt

  • felixthecat2

End her worthless life, the kitten had more class and dignity than this fugly ghetto trash.

  • DanielJ

My thoughts exactly, Felix. Nothing good will come out of either of these girls' lives, mark my words.
