Weiner Meets Skeptics At Health Care Town Hall

081109fallen.jpg This beach party didn't go exactly as planned. Though he managed to dodge the protesters that have been plaguing similar town hall meetings, Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) was met with skepticism from Howard Beach seniors yesterday regarding his plans for Health Care reform. Weiner addressed both his ideas for a "Single Payer" system (which Congressman Waxman introduced to the Senate floor) and the White House's more centrist efforts, but seemed to raise more questions than he answered. When one man asked who would foot the bill for this reform, Weiner simply acknowledged that as the "$64,000 question," and moved on. Of course, not everyone seemed to care, considering most of the attendees chanced upon the town hall by already being present at the Center for lunch. "This isn't gonna affect us, I think, that much because by the time all of this gets through, we might be six feet under," 81-year-old Marilyn Spoor told Rep. Weiner after the forum. Because why should the health of future generations be any concern of the Greatest Generation? But maybe New Yorkers shouldn't worry about health care anyway because we're getting healthier!

Anyone else notice that all these protesters are angry old white people? Since when were they ever happy with the present system? Rush Limbaugh would also have them believing that when they tuck into another plate of fried Spam, they're eating steak.

Old white people...yes. What worries me about this particular old white people is how IGNORANT the are. I bet they have barely high-school education, otherwise how can you take as "facts" all that crap is force-fed to them by FOX news and the parallel reality republicans like to construct to maintain a failed status quo.

I wouldn't say it but I'd sign the "DO NOT RESUSCITATE" in a heartbeat. It's a far better thing than living in sedated oblivion with a heart monitor and a hospice. She goes in and out of consciousness and for what? so her children can have relief that she's breathing. That's not life. It's purgatory.

  • I could definitely be mistaken, I believe she'd have to sign the DNR. If she's not already at peace with that decision, you're going to have a helluva time convincing her late in the game....which I think is the problem here. These alarmists seem like they're all petrified of death. "Give me liberty, or give me a perpetual vegetative state!"

The last time i checked death was a part of life. Old people should learn that they are a burden on society and should stop clinging and learn to let go in a peaceful manner. We've got 80 year olds who are walking pharmaceutical cocktails who are medically bankrupting the entire United States of America.

  • Not that I disagree, but could you say that to your grandma?

Henry Waxman is a congressman not a senator.
