Bloomberg Aides' Questionable Funding To Community Groups

2009_07_moneychest.jpg According to the NY Times, "For years, aides to Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg routed hundreds of thousands of dollars in city money to at least two politically connected nonprofit groups in violation of government contracting rules, according to records and interviews." See, the mayor's office can only direct money (and in this instance, it was "$1.1 million to Agudath Israel of America Community Services and more than $400,000 to Ohel Children’s Home and Family Services" between 2002 and 2006) when it's requested by a city council member or borough president—but the city council member, who is indicated as the one who requested the funding in documents, says he never asked for the money! City Councilman Simcha Felder (D-Brooklyn) told the Times, "I did not ask for it," while a mayoral spokesman said, "We have no reason to think that the funding analysis contains any errors. And we disagree with the councilman’s recollection." Yet, the Times adds, "The mayor’s office said it had no documentation showing that Mr. Felder had made the requests." And an Agudeth executive said it also went to the mayor's office for help. Last year, the City Council slush fund mess prompted the mayor's office to open up about its own slush fund.

Why is it always the Orthodox Jewish communities that gets the pork?

In my nabe, lots of 501-c3 are hurting and get nothing. Yet, these characters are raking it in and the Mayor lies and cheats to give them more.

Well,at least, it doesn't involve kidney transplants.

Quinn and Bloomberg and most of the city council members belong in jail with former CM Miguel Martinez. Bloomberg is now the richest man in the city after being mayor. he is thief.

Doucheberg belongs in jail with Madoff. Madoff's Ponzi scheme pales in comparison to Bloomberg redistribution of the city coffers into real developers, charter schools and rich friends' pockets

I have to sign to use a credit card for less than 2 dollars worth of services at the post office and Bloomberg's administration has no records about requesting hundreds of thousands of tax dollars?
Remind me again about his great executive experience, because I'm having trouble recalling.

I thought the Mayor is his own man, he can't be bought?
where's all the ads that says he answers to no one?
I forgot the term they used but it's parroted by all his supporters by saying that he's rich he can't be bought.

It's Voo-doo I tell ya.
Chew him up and spit.
Guess who I hate,
could it be a bloomin-idiot?
I think yes.

and just like berlusconi, the european king of corrupted politics, bloomberg'll get re-elected.

reminds me of how in east williamsburg most of the alternate side parking sides are for two days a week - not 4 like the nearby areas - on top of that those signs are plastered and painted over by people in the area but not replaced by the DOT, so in effect this huge swath of the neighborhood doesnt have alternate side parking. one city but with different rules for different people.

Neither the NY post nor the NY daily news haS mentioned this story. No surprise

so they didn't even ask for the money and got it?
no written request from anyone? is that like a back room deal?

the media avoids all stories that show the sham that our govt and rights are.

hey, why did the NYT closed the comments to this story so quickly?
NY will survive without bloomberg before and will survive without him again. he doesn't care about regular people, it's all lies. he's not one of us, like he'll have coffee with regular people.
