Three Dead In Wantagh Parkway One-Car Crash

2009_08_wanccr.jpg Just before 3 a.m. this morning, a Honda Civic crashed into a tree off the Wangtagh Parkway, south of the Sunrise Highway, killing the driver and passengers, one who had been sitting in front and one who had been sitting in the back. A fourth person, a woman who had been sitting in the backseat, was taken to Nassau University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. 1010 WINS reports, "Police believe that the car was speeding and lost control as it went around a curve in the road, slamming into a tree. Open and unopened beer cans were found inside the car, but it is unclear if alcohol consumption played a role in the crash, police said." The parkway may be partly closed due to the investigation.

    It's Wantagh Parkway, not Highway.

  • Mr Mel

The picture tells you that excessive speed was involved. I'll wait for the rest of the story.

i don't mean to be insensitive - it sounds like a tragic accident - but what does this have to with "New York City News, Food, Arts & Events"?

  • jaycjay

Really? It's hard to understand that "New York City News" might include the suburbs?

  • virgilstarkwell

Yes, that's hard to understand. "New York City News" means "New York City News" - in fact, it couldn't be any clearer if the words were in the title (oh wait, they are!).

""New York Area News" would encompass a town in mid-Nassau county.

  • jaycjay

There's probably not a news source in the city, and likely not in any other city, that doesn't also cover events in the suburbs.

But hey, maybe there's a market for it. Start a website where you can make your own rules on what to write about, and let's see how it goes.

Another self-centered dimwit who think everything revolves around NYC.

  • virgilstarkwell

Yep - and I'm so alone in that regard. Tell me, how many songs, movies, plays, works of art have been created about Wantagh? How many people in the midwest dream of someday making it big in Massapequa? How many European and Asian tourists save up each year for their big trip to Amityville?

  • retrovertigo

dude, why are you even arguing this? Nassau County is most definitely part of that community because it owes everything it is to NYC. Pretty much everyone who lives here used to live somewhere else in New York. Are you not from here or something? it's an absolute fact just as much as Queens, the Bronx, and Brooklyn are considered part of NYC news. Aquire some knowledge.

  • NannyState

We need Nassau County...to keep Suffolk from getting any closer.

  • Steven

Either you're being ignorant or sarcastic. How many NYC people come to Long Island for the beaches? How many NYC people want a getaway in the Hudson Valley? Where does NYC get it's water from?

  • Steven

Everyone knows New York City is nothing without its suburbs. The same way the suburbs are nothing without New York City.

  • virgilstarkwell

really? "everyone" knows this? i can only assume you mean "everyone" on long island, westchester, jersey, and connecticut. i'm not so sure you'd get a large consensus among nyc residents that, without the aforementioned locations, their home would be a mere shell of its current self.
