Adrienne Shelly Memorial Garden Dedicated Today

Earlier today a memorial garden honoring the late actor, writer and director Adrienne Shelly was unveiled in a ceremony at Abingdon Square Park (8th Avenue and 12th Street). Her widower, Andy Ostroy, who is also the Executive Director of the Adrienne Shelly Foundation, was on hand along with other friends and family. NY1 talked to Paul Rudd on the scene, who said "She really was such a fixture in this neighborhood for so many years that it's impossible not to think of her whenever I'm here."

The late Shelly was murdered by a construction worker in 2006; the garden faces the building in which she was killed. In a previous statement about the garden, Ostroy declared, “This has been a long but very satisfying journey to honor my late wife in the park she loved so much, across from the building in which she lived for many years, worked and died."

"The late Shelly was murdered by a construction worker in 2006"

Actually, she was murdered by an illegal immigrant who was worried she would have him arrested for stealing and that he would then be deported. Kind of more pertinent than the fact that he was a construction worker, don't you think?

Actually, it's only relevant to you, and your poor taste in commentary only harms your "cause."

Sorry, my previous comment was directed at TSOL.

Speaking of Hartley and Donovan, when if ever is "Trust" going to be released on DVD?

Tragic loss. She was a very talented filmmaker. See her movie Waitress. It is wonderful.

What a sad story. I remember when this happened. Her daughter will never know her mother, at least she will live through her work.

Where's Hal Hartley or Martin Donovan? You'd figure one of those two, having known her longer than Paul Rudd, would be better for interviewing. Or the Felicity chick - was she there?

Regardless of how long Mr. Rudd knew her, I think the fact that he was there to show support would be reason enough to interview him. He obviously cared enough to be there.

Certainly looks like Hal Hartley in the white shirt with suspenders on, in that wide shot picture in the gallery. Not that the writer of this article would have any clue who he is.

The photo that purports to show the garden is not accurate. The Adrienne Shelly Memorial Garden is on the east side of the park near the south entrance and has a larger assortment of blooms than is shown. Also, attending was actress Roseanna Arquette who was mistaken by this commenter for Adrienne's sister. They look so much alike.
