The Show Goes On For Last Day Of APW

Outdoor summer concerts are really catching a tough break this year with all this storm business. Yesterday was the final day of the All Point West Festival, and with more rain bursting out of the dark sky, all bands scheduled to play before 4:30 p.m. were canceled. Fearless ticket holders who showed up were treated to sets by Coldplay, Ghostland Observatory, Silversun Pickups, Elbow, Echo & the Bunnymen, and more. The headliner, Coldplay, even performed songs by Michael Jackson (video) and the Beastie Boys (video). And between sets, the mud provided plenty of entertainment.

All in all the fest seemed to be better received by the audience this year, after organizers worked out some kinks. And there didn't seem to be many complaints about yesterday's weather-prompted schedule changes... after all, just look what happens when such precautions aren't taken.

Here are our previous APW recaps, of day one and two.

Gothamist is my favorite but you guys have to do something about your photo albums! They are so annoying to navigate.

Gothamist is probably my favorite and definitely my most frequented blog but you guys have to do something about your photo albums! They are so annoying to navigate.

I did feel the beer corrals were better this year, they were longer and more central. You didn't feel so separated and shunned like we did last year. If you have to separate the drinkers, I think this years formation was workable. The bathrooms were a non-issue for me, never waited in line once and they even still had some hand sanitizer in them by the end of the night! I did the light rail this time and it was really fast and easy. You still have the long walk to the event but it was so much less stressful this year. Once you took the mud as just a fact of life, I enjoyed this year's line up so much more than last years. I wish I could have seen Lykke Li but We are Scientists were having a great set as well. Also, who did MGMT piss off to get a set time opposite Coldplay?!

It was all the goose shit from the Canada geese, relegated to the fields near the light rail tracks. I got the heads up from friends who were there friday and saturday, so I had galoshes on and clothes I didn't mind ruining. What was funny was all the kids still bitching by the end of night if someone dared get a splash of mud on them.

My galoshes got stuck in the mud everytime I stood still so would sputter and spit a bit when I yanked my foot loose, but the guy next to me squealed "Ew! someone just splashed me! My shorts got a spot of mud on them!" You're standing in a mud puddle with thousands of people! Get over it already, mud happens!

Also, wearing flip flops was a huge mistake. Next time, definitely galoshes.

The mud smelled like sewage and the beer drinkers cordoned off in pens. Thousands of dollars of footwear were irreparably ruined yesterday.

That said, most of the acts I saw last night were astounding, including Coldplay. Frankly I thought the best was Lykke Li, relegated to smallest stage but someone who gives an intense and dramatic performance on stage.

That mud seriously smelled atrocious as the day wore on, but we were pretty lucky to have the rain end before the 5pm acts. Love how Chris Martin said it was one of the most "interesting" smelling concerts he's ever been to.
