  • From the Gothamist Newsmap: A water rescue at Father Capodanno Blvd on Staten Island, a home invasion robbery at Prospect Ave & E 169th St in the Bronx, and a serious MVA at Kings Highway & Ave I in Brooklyn.
  • Police fired back at an armed man who shot at them in the Bronx. The suspect died from the one shot that hit him.
  • An NYPD chopper made an emergency landing a Queens soccer field early this morning. A neighbor said, "I was taking out the trash when I heard it. It cleared the houses by like 30 feet, and the fence by maybe 10."
  • Wonder why Bill O'Reilly and Keith Olbermann haven't been attacking each other as much lately? Apparently GE and News Corp. honchos made a deal to stop the bickering!
  • The East Hampton Library says a zoning board is trying to block them from building a children's library—apparently fearing it would attract youngsters from poorer communities.
  • A Boston University graduate student in physics has to pay $675,000 to record labels for illegally downloading songs like Nirvana's "Come As You Are."
  • An agent to Variety's Peter Bart about Sarah Palin as talk show host: "Sarah will make millions. But I'd shoot myself if I had to watch her."
  • And Jennifer Aniston looks, uh, perky in these photographs of her on the NYC set of her upcoming film, The Bounty.

Bill O'Reilly and Keith Olbermann should have just gone to the Weehawken Duelling Grounds and settled things in the traditional manner. It would make some really good television.

  • Mr Mel

"She should give advice to small town people about small town life."

Ms Palin could then give them advice about birth control, abstinence, and the adherence to duty so necessary to live a good Christian life. Her first guest on her show should be Levi Johnston, the father of her grandson, speaking on the art of tattooing and the merits of Bud Ice Light.
