Bloomberg Leaves the Door Open for A Fourth Term?

2009_07_kingmike.jpg Now we may have some insight as to why Mayor Bloomberg isn't exactly, um, fond of answering questions on term limits. Throughout the mayor's gradual reversal of his term limits stance last year, he made it clear that he was for the concept, but had begun having doubts on whether the limit should be two or three. Yesterday, when asked whether he would guarantee not running for a fourth term, the mayor gave a standard answer of the law not allowing it...and then responded to a follow-up pushing him this way, "But it does now. It permits only three terms, so I don’t know. Talk to your City Council. Let me point out that I had no intention of running for a (third) term up until near the end, as you know. The City Council changed the law. It’s up to the voters whether they want four more years." Is it time to cue The Price is Right Ciffhangers yodeling music?

Great, Then I can vote against him two times.

I like the job he's doing overall, but paying *cough* convincing the Council to overturn 2 Voter Referendums is BS and is for his own good, not the people.

This is bullshit, really. He convinced City Council to allow a third term limit and he knows that he is going to win no matter what. With the millions and millions of dollars he is spending and with all of the trees he has downed to print and mail his propaganda to every NY home a thousand times, I ask you... What % of people actually know who he's running against? I'm embarrased to say I can't remember the guy's name. No one can compete with that kind of money. I think Mike is doing a good job, but I don't think he should keep milking it. Let someone else have at it.

and after bloomturd stops winning in NYC he plans to continue to pursue his endless term limits down in venezuela. watch your back chavez...viva la billionaire revolucion!

I loves me some Bloomberg and I think he's the best thing to happen to this city in a very long time, but four terms is too much. If he wants to continue influencing city government (which I hope he will) he can groom and endorse a successor and let the city decide if they like that person or not.

Does anyone need any further proof that this man is a deranged narcissist? Please I implore you to vote him out now, regardless of who we wind up with at this point.

I agree with you 100% but we have delusional people who continue to say Bloomberg is doing a great job when he has driven small businesses out of the city and caused more homelessness with his overdevelopment. Now king bloomberg even tapes Thompson. Bloomberg is evil and people are just plain stupid.

I've been warning people for a while now. Bloomberg won't be happy until he gets the title changed to "Mayor for Life." Let someone else have a crack at the job. NYC is not so fragile that any one person as mayor can wreck it. If the next mayor doesn't work out, we can vote him out in four years. That's how it's supposed to work.

I have to disagree a little - actually no. I have to disagree a lot. Over the past year or two NYC has been so fragile that the wrong man in that office would have wrecked us. Look at how we are faring compared to other cities around the country right now. Go to Las Vegas and see what a nightmare they are living right now.

I, for one, remember New York the 70's and saw first hand the damage that can be wrought in a shockingly short period of time and how hard it is to undo (our bridges and highways are STILL being rebuilt after 20 years from just a few years of neglect). People who have only moved here in the past 20-odd years have no idea how lucky we are right now. Sure he's a narcissist, but so has every other New York City mayor. At least Bloomberg genuinely seems to be a good manager at the same time.

NYC unemployment is higher than the national rate. Open your eyes and read up on how bad NYC really is. He is now using our stimulus money for his coney Island project. he is the worst manager and continue to dole out OUR money to gain favors with unions for his reelection. WAKEUP

NYC unemployment is higher than the national rate.

When was the last time it wasn't? Face it, New York has lots of poor, uneducated people living in it and the only jobs left are finance and law. Industry was pushed out in the 1960s and 1970s, hardly Bloomberg's fault. This isn't meant to be an endorsement of Bloomberg but sooner or later you're going to have to put forth an agenda beyond "not Bloomberg".

las vegas and NYC are not comparable. las vegas was a boomtown for housing start ups and it's main industry is gambling which obviously slows during a recession. giving bloomberg the credit for NYC's stability disregards the nuances of an aged, fully-developed housing market and a diversified economic machine.

a lot of people who support bloomberg are just really uninformed about lots of things and subservient to him because he's powerful and he's a billionaire. the meek masses find comfort in having a powermonger rule over them.

FU Bloomberg

You are the dungeon master who is also playing in the game!

You are a real estate developer who creates the laws.

You are using your power to make yourself more money and power.

this man is ridiculous!!

there really is no stopping him...he has control of the schools again...by the way we're not going to spiral into the 70s people if we get rid of this bought and paid for dictator!!! anyone who thinks that he's done "great things" for this city is delusional! he's in bed with all the powers that be...this city is NOT a corporation, and shouldn't be RUN by corporations..f u bloomie!!

oh by the way...if even friggin psycho guiliani had the guts to not push for term limit extensions POST 9/11 for god's sake, who the f does this fool think he is? egomaniac!!

The City Council changed the law. It’s up to the voters whether they want four more years.
It's a good idea to ignore the fact the voters clearly voted against more than 2 terms twice, Bloomie.

Obsessive Compulsive Mayoral Disorder: it's in the upcoming DSM V.

I'm quite sure I said "I hate Bloomberg."
He needs a spell to be spun on his ass.
