Has Animal Sacrifice Arrived in Prospect Park?

2009_07_simmonstongue.jpg A report came over the newswire this afternoon that cops in Brooklyn were investigating "multiple animal tongues nailed to various trees" in Prospect Park. Could it be related to some sort of ritual sacrifice going on in the heart of Brooklyn? Last month, a Parks ranger spoke to the Post about areas in Queens such as Forest Park and Highland Park being hotbeds of animal sacrifice performed for reasons such as "devil worship to voodoo to offerings for good luck." A man in Forest Park had recently come upon a rooster and a goat head while walking his dog, but there had been no reports at the time of any activity in Prospect Park. Today's wire said that the tongues were found in the Lincoln Road and Ocean Avenue area—seems like no way to christen the park's new giant Dumpster.

The tongue(s)are used by mamy faiths (Santeria, Palo Mayombe, Vudu, 21 Divisions, etc., mainly African Traditional Religions) in order to cleanse oneself from negative energy caused by others gossiping and speaking maliciously of a person. It is a symbolic religious/spiritual act - whether or not approved,it is the same as the transmogrification of the "blood" and "body" of Christ, covering one heads in reverence to God (Jew's) or praying 5 times a day (Islam).

Every religion has it's own beliefs.

What a relief(!) to know that the sneaky ritual torturing of small animals (who are not gossiping or speaking maliciously about you) is an effective means to make people stop dissing your noble lifestyle. Religion is cool that way.

How easy is to abuse animals?

How easy is to kill a person?

We are all capable of doing killing,

but civilization, and moral parameters prevent us from just acting on senseless possibilities of cruelty...those that act on such violent impulses for egotistical ends are merely psychopaths.

Yeah, every year they swing chickens around by the thousands and then slaughter them right there in the street. But that's okay?

Why is it that almost every time I read gothamist there's a story about animal cruelty? It's so freaking sad.

I'd like to find the person who did this, and nail them to the tree by the tongue.
