Ugh. On mornings like this, with a dew point of 74 degrees, we wish Morningside Park had a funicular. After climbing all those steps we're a big, stinky, ball of sweat. Today will remain disgusting with a dose of danger this afternoon. A host of factors: heat, extreme humidity, unstable air, an approaching cold front, etc. all point to heavy rain, and potentially severe thunderstorms this afternoon. High winds, hail, flash flooding, frequent lightning, and possibly even a tornado are not out of the question. At present it appears that the most severe weather will hit slightly north and west of the city but it is still wise to keep an eye on the sky later today.
Yesterday turned out to be the first warmer than normal day this month. Today may be warm as well, but only because this morning's low was so warm. Look for a high in the low 80s. Hey, it is better than being in Seattle where highs are expected to reach 100 today. Another round of showers and thunderstorms are expected tomorrow and Friday as it won't be easy for the aforementioned cold front to displace the Bermuda High.
With any luck the front will pass Friday night. If so the city should see a very pleasant Saturday with mostly sunny skies and a high in the mid 80s. Sunday is expected to at least start out sunny.

This picture... is... amazing
Is it just me or is this a seriously shitty summer? Rain, rain, rain rain thunderstorm thunderstorm rain rain rain humidity thunderstorm. We've had what, 3 nice days all summer?
Are you kidding me? Sure it rained every day in June but July has been mostly beautiful. And it hasn't been hot!
I think it's time to ask Atreyu to help us free the city from The Nothing.
a funicular. sweet.
funiculi funicula Offfa yamay Ya Funiculi Funicula
What they do to get that picture? Those clouds are seem artificially dark, especially considering the sun is to the left.
This picture was taken next to Botanica in Red Hook. I'm betting it was taken this past Sunday. There were some serious atmospherics going on -- pitch black clouds to the east and Sunshine from the west (which is the direction the sun is coming from in this photo). The "devil was beating his wife" as my girlfriend puts it.
