Poll: Thompson Gains On Bloomberg, Still Trails By 10 Points

2009_07_blthhl.jpg A new Quinnipiac poll shows that City Comptroller Bill Thompson, the likely Democratic candidate for mayor, has erased some of the gap between himself and Mayor Bloomberg: PolitickerNY reports, "Thompson trails Bloomberg 47 to 37 among city voters, compared to the 54-to-32 spread in Quinnipiac’s June 16 poll," also noting that Bloomberg was ID'd for the first time as a "Republican and independent." Howard Wolfson, spokesman for Bloomberg's campaign, said, “This shows that when you change the wording of any poll, no matter how good, you get a different result. The fact is NYers know that Mike Bloomberg is an independent who governs in a nonpartisan way, which is why roughly two thirds of New Yorkers consistently approve of his job performance and why he has double digit leads over both of his opponents," while Thompson campaign spokeswoman Carly Lindauer said, "Mike Bloomberg has spent nearly $40 million to see his poll numbers decline. It’s clear that after eight years of a Republican mayor who’s been focused on those at the top, New Yorkers want change in City Hall."

Everyones seeing through you bloom should have spent your money more wisely.

Think of all the people that could have been helped.

I'll probably get less parking tickets, moving violations etc with Thompson as mayor. I probably won't have to worry about Thompson putting an $8 toll on the east river bridges, will I?

  • JacqueMehoff

c'mon did any mayor truly did a terrible job in the past 40 years or so. Lindssy? Beame? Koch? Dinkins? Giuliani?

what did we know about bloomberg 8 years ago? about as much as we know about Thompson. they all had their pluses and minuses.

except bloomberg really gave it to the middle class by nickle and diming them. whereas the richies got tax breaks.

didn't know mayor Beame was only 5'2"

  • Mr Mel

Does anyone really want Thomson for mayor? We'll only get another hack. Say what you will about Bloomberg, but he gets things done. Thomson would come into office owing every other politician and would be paying back Sharpton and the rest of the grafters.

  • ANGRYGOD11

After years of non-hack semi-human mayors, we need a change. Thompson, if elected, is in no position to play Santa Claus with public money during this recession. There isn't any cash laying around. By state law NYC must balance the budget. Thompson has the option of being Mr Responsible and tell everyone sorry and no freakin way.

  • Mr Mel

You say there may not be cash (but there always is) but there are jobs and he will be selling them.

Beware Citizen Bloomkane, the dirty laundry of Thompson will be page 1 in a week.

We need to rid ourselves of the elf.

Send him packin back to Boston.

  • sowhtifithppnsitwll

I don't know much about Thompson.

He's not Bloomberg and that's got to be a good thing.

    GOOO THOMPSON.

  • ANGRYGOD11

This November the biggest vote getter might be NOT Bloomberg, I hope.

It might be incumbent exhaustion, Bloomberg disgust or just a public need for change.

No matter what, I'll take it.

  • Also, how interesting we get the Bloomberg campaign spin immediately next to the results....

  • Well, the NOT BLOOMBERG people better not stay home - as they did the past 2 elections. Mr moneybags won by default both times. Tell your friends to come vote - Thompson is a pretty good guy too.

  • Blue387

So, Bloomberg blows $40 million on ads, signs, offices while Bill Thompson and Tony Avella are invisible and nowhere to be seen and Bloomberg is only ahead by ten points?
