Owner Fatally Shoots Suspect In Attempted Home Invasion

2009_07_hmbx.jpg In the Wakefield section of the Bronx, a homeowner managed to shoot one of the men apparently attempting to rob his house. The suspect was killed (in the doorway), while another was wounded—but two other suspects fled. According to WABC 7, "The four suspects burst into the man's home on Bussing Avenue just before 12:15 a.m. this morning. They held up the occupant of the home, until he grabbed the gun from one of the suspects." Two guns found at the scene are believed to be from the suspects. A neighbor spoke WCBS 2 and said of the neighbor, "Wow. Very brave. He's hard working, quiet, hard working guy."

Give this man a medal.

Pity he didn't kill the other three worthless punks too.

Yeah punk robbers who try to take away your big screen TV should all be given instant death penalties. Due process of law suUx!!!1!!

Yeah, actually they should've been shot dead. Respect for private property is what holds this country together. Violate that, and suffer fatal consequences. Your home is your castle. Your family is your life.

Invade it, and prepare to die.

I'm sure you would've shaken these guys' hands and given them all of your hard-earned possessions, right?

due process of law are you kidding me? what, are they going to prove they weren't robbing that man's house. fk outta here

Wow, good for the owner. jibbly, read the story. Four armed men broke into this guy's home, the owner managed to get a gun away from one, and you talk about due process of law? idiot.

"Due process" is what required of the government before it can deprive you of life, liberty, or property. If a guy's standing in your living room with a gun about to deprive you of any of the above, what due process is he entitled to before you shoot him? A lawyer at your expense? Get real.

Sorry, that was supposed to be a comment to jibbly above.

You sure made a fool of yourself with that comment. Are you for real? What twisted fantasy world do you live in?

too bad most people can't legally own guns to protect themselves

Balls of Steal.

But to be honest it would give me the jitters if there were guns in every household...

I'm with you on that one.

Glad he's OK and I'm sure the surviving thief will rat out the other two.

Kojack said: But to be honest it would give me the jitters if there were guns in every household..

Well, they are ALOT of illegal handguns in the households of NYC. Illegal guns are cheaper and disposable. You kill the intruder and concoct a story you wrestled the gun away from him. Now you are a hero. Your only worry should be about getting the blood stains out of the wood floor

Being killed by your own gun, which in this case was a tool of the trade, is not exactly a great endorsement for gun ownership as a form of self preservation.

No, dude, the gun ownership is to protect you from bastards like these.

I hope Mayor Bloomberg and Senator Chuck Schumer denounce this senseless killing...

I hope Bloomberg, Schumer, and KGil say, "See! You don't need guns. You just have to overtake the criminals who don't abide by these laws we create, and then shoot them."

if this guy had his gun, there would be more dead useless people. none criminals can't get guns easily in nyc, while criminals get them regardless of the law.

One less piece of worthless garbage.

Kojak. "But to be honest it would give me the jitters if there were guns in every household..."

If you go to almost any rural section of the country you will find firearms in most if not all the homes. I'm not talking suburbia, I'm talking rural. And you won't find them shooting at each other every day of the week.

apparently your rural exploits are limited to "not hunting season."

There are even states where you can have a weapon in your car...

the density/ apartment living here makes a difference. You and I might be smart when it comes to guns but look how many idiots are here.

The presumption that had this guy had a gun, then all the robbers would be dead is far-fetched at best. Had this guy gone for his own gun, it seems just as likely that he would have been shot.
All gun wound/death statistics show is that gun owners are more likely to shoot family members with their guns than house intruders and robbers.
(Frankly, this whole story sounds fishy. The man being "robbed" was found with a pound of marijuana and firearms.)

Four guys come into your house, do you want a gun or not?

You gun control people have the worst logic ever.

First, that is not true. I know the study you are referring to. It is just false.

So you are saying you would have rather the home owner died?

That statistic, which is the basis of nearly all gun control arguments come from a NEJM article from the early 80's. I am the only person that I know of that has actually read it. It is highly biased and virtually irrelevant since the majority of it consists of suicides and justifiable homicides in domestic disputes (i.e. defense against abusive spouses).

The suggestion that "all statistics" point to this conclusion is simply untrue. I was against gun ownership for most of my life until I actually read the NEJM article in question. You have a better chance of dying from tripping and falling. People should campaign to reduce unnecessary deaths caused by infections caught in hospitals.

The problem is that things like tripping and falling don't sell news as well as gun violence.

I am the other guy that read it. ;). You forgot to note the fact that "acquaintance" includes "guy who you ripped off in a drug deal who is coming through the door to collect."

did they mention if he was hard working?

bad ass! the homeowner obviously watched a lot of Walker Texas Ranger.

the story said a quarter pound of marijuana, not a pound. it also doesn't specify if the firearms recovered were the owner's or the robbers.

Awesome!
Wish this happened more.
Too bad about the three that got away.

I always like it when the cops sow some doubt about the homeowner by saying that 1/4 pound of weed and firearms were recovered; implying whatever comes to the mind of middle america.

Since commenters are focusing on gun rights, I always thought it was odd that gun rights activist (usually republicans wanting smaller government and less government intrusion) are pro-life (more government intrusion) because to me the principles are at odds which each other. Thinking of Palin.

I'm just saying....

The stereotype of the gun owner has been changing. I am a pro-choice, pro-gay marriage liberal Democrat. The only hypocrisy I see is among so-called progressives who bitched and moaned after 8 years of W trampling the Bill of Rights try to claim that the 2nd Amendment can just be ignored because "times are different." Sound familiar?

I used to be very pro-gun control, then I actually did my own research on studies like the one referenced, found out what exactly Schumer meant by an "assault weapon" and shifted on the position. New York will be the last to change attitudes, (conveniently ignoring the implicit racist and classist roots of gun control), but Democrats as a whole are recognizing the illogic of the anti-gun argument.

His lesser crimes shouldn't even be mentioned in the press. It's like "Four men tried to rob and kill another. That other guy had some pot at home." Who cares? What's the relativity unless they were attempting a drug deal or something? Just to make him seem, what - deserving of the unrelated threat to his safety? Good job, journalism.

I say good for the homeowner. Gun rights arguments aside, illegality of pot possession aside, he's a lucky guy with a good aim who didn't deserve to be robbed at gunpoint.

Thank you for saving my tax dollars by shooting this fucktard instead of my having to pay to house his sorry ass in jail.

I guess that I'm the only one who suspects that the homeowner used his own "illegal gun" to defend himself and told the cops that he took it off the criminals. Good for him regardless.
