Earlier this week, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton discussed North Korea on Good Morning America, saying, "What we've seen is this constant demand for attention... And maybe it's the mother in me or the experience that I've had with small children and unruly teenagers and people who are demanding attention -- don't give it to them, they don't deserve it, they are acting out." Well, North Korea didn't like that too much—and made a new bid for attention by slamming the Secretary of State calling her vulgar and unintelligent and saying she looks either like a schoolgirl or retiree. Wow, it's almost like primary season 2008 again!
The North Korean Foreign Ministry issued a statement to criticize Clinton's remarks, "She has made a spate of vulgar remarks unbecoming for her position everywhere she went since she was sworn in...[The remarks suggest] she is by no means intelligent... We cannot but regard Mrs. Clinton as a funny lady as she likes to utter such rhetoric, unaware of the elementary etiquette in the international community. Sometimes she looks like a primary schoolgirl and sometimes a pensioner going shopping... It is our view that she can make even a little contribution to the implementation of the U.S. administration's foreign policy as secretary of State only when she has understanding of the world, to begin with."
Clinton has "rallied international isolationisn of North Korea" at the ASEAN Summit in Thailand. She said, "There is no place to go for North Korea. They have no friends left."

I personally think it's racist compare a nation to an "unruly child"
It reminds me of a cartoon I saw in History class that had Teddy Roosevelt surrounded by a bunch of brown children that represented the nations of the western hemisphere (including the Phillipines).
Racist? Really?
Inappropriate perhaps.
How is it racist?
Because imperialism is based on an idea of patronism towards child-like nations
To wit:
"They believed it was the special duty of the United States to help those people overcome oppression and guide them toward the light of the principles of liberty and freedom. The expansionists frequently argued that America was not simply imposing its own brand of Old World imperialism. Rather, they argued, it was adopting these childlike nations so they could be nurtured to maturity and statehood. In time, once they were ready, these nations could choose for themselves whether to be independent or join the Union. The imperialists, drawing upon the tradition of manifest destiny, were strong believers in and advocates of the missionary strand of American exceptionalism."

If anything it just shows Clinton's ignorance of history - even our own history - when it comes to manifest destiny and dealing with small - if unruly - nations.
And no, I'm not some bleeding heart liberal pansy or whatever, it just shows an ignorance that she probably didn't even consider before she made the remarks.
And yes I am also saying that manifest destiny was at its base a racist concept that went part in parcel with the idea of the "white man's burden"
That's a bit of reach, man.
Surely is smacks of imperialism. But I don't buy your jump from imperialism to racism.
Anyone who doesn't see the racism in imperialism, the talking down to nations populated by other races as though they are mentally/physically/etc inferior, is at best uninformed and at worst willfully ignorant.
Try living in reality.
According to your ultra-PC trash theory no one from a particular race can ever insult anyone of another race or its automatically racist.
Horseshit.
The country is acting like a child.
While there is inherent racism in imperialism, in the case of North Korea, they are acting like a child who isn't getting attention. They have a leader with obvious mental problems (narcissism one of his main traits). I'd say that her evaluation of them was right on the money.
it looks like clinton touched a nerve. isolation is the right strategy for dealing with the dprk.
republican response:
"is this your idea of diplomacy obama?! the dozens?!"
They've been isolated for decades. As long as China continues to help them, they won't change their ways.
NK bitching about etiquette in international relations? How about they start by honoring any agreement they've ever signed..
Agreed. I mean, it is North Korea, but still. Diplomacy is an art of tact and Clinton doesn't seem to have it here.
north korea long ago forfeited any right to be treated with respect and tact. if only there were financial/resource gains to be had and no powerful china to piss off...
I don't disagree with you, but providing fodder for them to turn into propaganda isn't smart. I'm sure her statements are all over NK with a caption explaining what Americans "really" think of NK. She should have realized that.
Might be a little hard to ignore NK if they drop a nuke somewhere.
NK is not run by 'unruly children' it's run by homicidal psychopaths. If Hillary can't figure that out, she is totally unqualified for her job.
Do they even have "pensioners", let alone "shopping" up in NK? I surprised they even know those concepts... or what they look like. Maybe those starving bastards should stop mouthing off, and concentrate on fermenting dust, or whatever the hell they have to eat up there.
"Sometimes she looks like a primary schoolgirl and sometimes a pensioner going shopping." Man, that is a poetic burn.
international diplomats or snot-nosed schoolyard brats? you be the judge.
Matty, you didn't address how exactly it's "racist." I'd be interested myself in hearing that.
I agree this is a bit inappropriate. However, I'm not surprised by Hillary's statements or the response of NK. Their one and only idea to increase their paychecks is to blackmail the West with threats that will only lead to their own annihalation. For Clinton's part, she has shown ignorance in the past, don't forget "landing under fire," threatening Iran with annihalation, calling Obama inexperienced during the primary, calling her fellow Senators "slavemasters" in NO after Katrina. Let's face it, no matter how bad you may want it to be true, she's more ruthless than she is intelligent.
Ok, I'll change it from racist to ignorant. Still, she's walking a fine-line in my opinion.
Never mind, I guess the last post was meant to do that. I think it's a bit of a stretch though. And I'm not necessarily defending Clinton. Arrogant, inappropriate, careless, maybe. But racist? nah.
Now that's diplomacy! Keep up the good work North Korea.
Schoolgirl? Perhaps Jerri from 'Strangers with Candy'.
HRC and NK are both vulgar and foolish.
A "schoolgirl" who looks like an old "pensioner shopping"? Hillary is one of the Olsen Twins?
"Sometimes she looks like a primary schoolgirl and sometimes a pensioner going shopping..."
Right, because Kim Jong Il is the authority on Western fasion in his zip-up Mao suit and Blueblockers.
North Korea giving international etiquette lessons!
Oh, the absurdity!
While Clinton's statements come off less than professional, even for her, NK's response comes off as the equivalent of a 3rd grader's "well yer a poopyface!" perhaps confirming Clinton's remark.
Relations really are thawing between N. Korea and the U.S.: in the old days they would have just called her a c*nt.
The most sensible comment so far.
