Survey: JFK Third Worst Airport to Sleep In Worldwide

072109doze.jpg JFK is the third worst airport to try and catch some shut-eye in, according to a newly released survey of 6,200 travelers by travel website The Guide to Sleeping in Airports. The airport's ranking is blamed on coldness, frequent P.A. announcements, TV monitors blaring CNN, bright lights, and overabundance of seats with armrests. Here's one thwarted sleeper's rough experience: "Our flight left at 7 a.m. and since the subway had crazy transport times during non-peak times we decided to stay at JFK. We went upstairs to the red carpet area next to BWIA check in and this security guard 'Agapita' ... told us to move. Then we went downstairs and fell asleep lying on the cold floor. We awoke to this horrid clapping of Agapita saying, 'You cant sleep here! Move now before I throw you out!' It was horrible! She told us we couldn't be on the floor. My witty friend then asked if we could stand on the floor and she said 'NO' she was a pain to everyone there! Thanks Agapita!" According to the poll, the worst airport for sleeping is Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris; second worst is Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport, where Agapitushka, the notorious Siberian security guard, keeps all her comrades alert.

What's up with the guard's name in quotes like that?

Redneck.

It's an airport. You go there and get on airplanes and leave. It's not a hotel/hostel.

Plan accordingly.

Can you describe this perp "Agapita" and is the individual in the states legally or was same dropped off in the unclaimed baggage area and decided to stay?

I've taken the subway MANY times to catch flights that leave JFK between 6 and 7 a.m. It runs about every 20 minutes. You can even go online to see the schedule, and at that hour, it's generally pretty close to schedule. There's nothing "crazy" about it. Sounds like the quoted person is just an idiot.

I had to spend a night in O'Hare once; got no sleep til Brooklyn.

I don't know why, but BWI? Just cozy.

There are tons of hotels within 15 minutes of JFK. If you could afford one, but decided not to, you're not too smart.

I don't have a whole lot of sympathy for someone who willingly decides to "sleep" at JFK. I mean, seriously? There is cheap public transit to get there in the morning, or you could, I don't know, take a CAB!

Or just fly out later in the day, like I do.

This just might have to do with canceled flights and other major fuckups that are a common occurrence at JFK and other local airports.

Door to door to DC takes about 4 hours by air. Driving, it takes about 3 1/2 and costs about $120 round trip.

Maybe people need to realize that they shouldn't look to fly domestic out of JFK. Door-to-door NY to DC takes no more than 2 and a half hours out of LaGuardia. I know of people that leave home at 6:15 AM in NYC, get a days work in in DC, and are home by 7:30 PM.

Or get an airport hotel that will take you there free. And has low room rates to boot.
