Last Night's Action: Back To Work

    • Yankees 5 Detroit 3: AJ Burnett didn’t have much, but he had enough to get through six ugly innings on Friday. Burnett only struck out one while walking five and left the game losing 3-2, but the offense bailed him out. Mark Teixeira hit a three-run blast and Phil Hughes pitched two dominant innings of relief, striking out six. Mariano Rivera took it from there and got his 24th save of the season.
    • Atlanta 11 Mets 0: Greg Maddux taunted the Mets during the ceremony to retire his number before the game saying, “Let’s go out and beat the Mets just like old times” and his old team did just that. Mike Pelfrey couldn’t seem to find the strike zone and got rocked. The Mets offense couldn’t seem to find anything, managing only two hits and to add injury to insult, Gary Sheffield left the game limping. So, it’s 0-2 to start the second half, but at least Santana is on the mound later today.

The Yankees beat Detroit tonight, not Toronto.

I'm not one to complain, but Gothamist is really messy with their sports coverage. I could care less about grammar or spelling errors, when when facts or stats are wrong it's a whole another game.

Maddux didn't taunt the Mets-he simply stated the facts. The Mets suck

Yup, terrible mistake by me. No excuse for it, my apologies.
