With Rivera's Save, American League Wins 13th All Star Game In A Row

Last night in St. Louis, the American League won its 13th MLB All Star game in a row, giving the AL team that makes it to the World Series home field advantage. Mariano Rivera closed the game (video); the Daily News reports this is his fourth All Star save, "moving him past Dennis Eckersley for the most in history," leading Rivera's teammate and fellow All Star Derek Jeter to say, "It's just another thing he can put on his Hall of Fame plaque, I guess."

The Post goes on to crow about Rivera, "Rivera is a big part of [the American League's] edge. He has not allowed an earned run in eight career All-Star innings over eight appearances. It's one thing to master opposing teams, it's another to master the best of the best. That's Rivera."

The game started with President Obama throwing the ceremonial pitch—he was given the ball by Cardinals legend Stan "The Man" Musial. Wearing a White Sox jacket (and Mom jeans), Obama lobbed the ball to Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols. There is much debate about Obama's pitch, which seemed to falter before home plate. My mom would not appreciate the comparison!

With 8 billion cameras on hand FOX uses the worm's eye view for the President throwing out the first pitch... they suck.

Yeah, it was a TERRIBLE angle. Later on, during replay, they used a more traditional angle, but still.

Completely disagree. They showed the throw later from the more traditional outfield camera and the high looping arc is more obvious as is the fact that Pujols reached forward to catch the ball before it hit the ground. The low angle used when they broadcast it live makes the throw look much better. You can see both angles on the MLB website:

yeah replays-yawn. try getting it right when it actually happens...

I agree with you that the camera work sucked but I was specifically referring to how it made his throw look. I think the view from the field had the potential to be cool but the cameraman never got settled.

Yeah, awful camera work. They know he's a lefty but they chose to shoot him from behind in a completely unflattering way. Also, the camera was too close so you couldn't see the whole throw. Total fail.

Girly man.

He bowled a 37 too.

I for one could care less about my president's ability to throw a baseball (or his bowling score for that matter).

But really, Barack I love you, but you need to get different jeans. How does Michelle let her man walk out of the house with those things?

I would like to see you play him in hoops.

Not 13 wins in a row. There was a tie in 2002.

For wearing a deluxe bullet-proof vest, Barack made a pretty decent throw.

Jen, can you write all baseball coverage from now on?

A first pitch from President John McCain would have invited a North Korean invasion.

I think those jeans mean it's already started.

Fox sports coverage sucks so bad. Last year during the world series they spent more time with the cameras on the commentators than they did on the field, especially in the last two games. Made the games unwatchable.
