Cardboard Tube War Ravages McCarren Park

Confirming the worst fears of many hipster analysts, long-simmering tensions between rival cardboard tube factions erupted into full-scale war on Sunday, with many women and children caught in the crossfire. Photojournalist Katie Sokoler risked grave injury to bring us these shocking photographs from the front lines; she reports that the casualties were innumerable, and only one young girl (photo 2) emerged triumphant from the cardboard carnage, smiting her foes with pitiless cruelty: "The guys were scared of her, she had no shame in aiming for the crotch." Sokoler also reports that the remaining survivors "helped to clean up and recycle the cardboard after the event."

When the revolution comes, I want to folks in pic #6 to be on my side.

While I'm not surprised this was posted, I'll still bitch about how irrelevant it is. It's a group of friends fncking around and maybe 20 onlookers.

that sounds like fun... good for them!

(fuckin hipsters, i keeed i keeeed) :P

Is that little cutie in picture #11 on the shoulders of Ethan from Lost?

AHH! I think that makes us nerds.

ethan from 'lost' is tom cruise's cousin.

This is so lame. Why does Gothamist provide so much media for ANYTHING related to Williamsburg? Did nothing else relevant happen this weekend?

Nothing else happened anywhere else in the other boroughs this weekend-nothing Williamsburg and Greenpoint are THE place to be. Nowhere else in the city can you have adults beating each other up with cardboard-or watch bands play by the water.

No one thought to show up with a cardboard box catapult?

Very disappointing.

White people are crazy.

Arrgh! Why didn't the NYPD bust this up real good with their trust batons? How much of these hipsters' trustfunds were wasted on their cardboard "art"! I should have been there with my baseball bat wrapped in cardboard, swinging for their heads!!

That would have been awesome because we'd be reading about you and your trip to jail after being beaten down by hipsters and cops.

And in case you really had no clue, cardboard doesn't cost a thing, especially when found during a dumpster dive.

There's something kinda yEEEWaweew about a bunch of grownups playing war when, you know, the real kind is still going on...

Will recess finally end so these kiddies can go back to their lives hunting used records and struggling to make sushi at home?

I am so upset that people are able to have fun doing something silly! Why must I be so straight-laced and only able to find joy in the New York Times crossword puzzle?

Oh puke.

This is slightly less pathetic than the pantsless subway ride crap.
