The raccoon look was back in SoHo today. No, that' doesn't mean Gossip Girl was filming a Little J scene at Uniqlo—we mean there literally was a raccoon inside the John Varvatos store on Spring and Greene. Gawker reports: "According to the nice lady I talked to when I called, animal control sadly took him away before they had time to name him, after a significant crowd had gathered outside. No idea how he got in, and she had no idea where they took him to." The website got tipped off by Cheryl Tan, who spotted the raccoon and did what any responsible citizen journalist does these days—Twitpicked it up ASAP. Along with the shot, she tweeted, "A raccoon just snuck into John Varvatos in SoHo-they swear it's not being kept for future fur collar." Does anyone else get the feeling PETA could be involved with this?

There's nothing cute about it, raccoons often carry rabies.
Tell me about it. I was face to face with a racoon in the garbage area about 2 years ago. Without thinking I reached out to pet him because he was very cute when the bandit bastard took a bite out of my finger. Ended up in the ER which sucked.
Aw, the poor raccoon was probably scared...
I once had a porcupine in my basement window well. But that was in Wyoming.
If PETA isn't behind this, then raccoons are probably everywhere already. And we thought the rat problem was bad.
Raccoons were here long before we were. I bet this has nothing to do with PETA.
I wish people could empathize with animals a bit more. Animals don't reason which means this fuzzy guy was probably feeling nothing but terror. Have you ever felt terrified? Imagine that feeling again right now and then picture not having the ability to be consoled.
I feel terrible for these creatures a lot of the time, especially in the city. They were here before us. We should learn to live with them, not terrify them. I breaks my heart a little bit. This feeling became worse when I had a son of my own. You try telling a terrified toddler who doesn't yet understand language that everything is going to be OK. It's heartbreaking, people. Truly.
I just wish we had more compassion. If this opens me up for attacks, so be it. But this world is terrifying with an understanding of language.
+1
I think I'll take the high road and refrain from making the usual "slow news day" comment...
The goons are going to kill that racoon now. Stop the murder!
If this had happened at the new Varvatos in the former CBGBs, I would have suspected they came out of the walls.
