Today In State Senate Stalemate News

Since we last checked in with the coup-coup State Senate, here's what's been happening:
  • There are apparently different power-sharing proposals. Here they are, but the big difference is that the Democrats want to have co-President Pro Tempores of the Senate while the Republicans are happy to just have one—Pedro Espada Jr.

  • The state is (finally!) withholding Senators' paychecks. According to the Daily News, "Wednesday is the first payday since the order. Payroll for 62 senators amounts to some $190,000 - or $3,049 per senator, every two weeks."

  • The Four Amigos—State Senators Pedro Espada Jr., Ruben Diaz Sr., Hiram Monserrate and Carl Kruger—claim tomorrow is D-Day, as in the day for the stalemate to end, with Diaz Sr. saying, "One way or another, this has to end. Too much circus, too much travesty, too much abuse of the people of the state of New York."
Governor Paterson is expected to address the public today at 5:01 p.m.

Losing money isn't an option, this will be resolved before any money is withheld.

of course tomorrow is d-day. They won't be getting paid

  • buttface

    Withholding pay isn't enough.

Payroll issued for time not spent working should be canceled and returned to the state.

  • When does someone in Hollywood make this a soap opera???
