As Michael Jackson memorialmania continues to sweep the nation, nay, The World, here's a nice little tribute that recently went down at the Trinity Wall Street Church. That's right, the June 28th service included "Beat It," "ABC," and other hits from MJ's catalogue.
Bravo to the organist Robert Ridgell, who was met with a standing ovation. [via the L]

I gave up on religion a long time ago. However, I have to wonder what this world is coming to. A religious institution commemorating a pop star? Much less a pop star with a dubious record of behavior. Leave it to CNN will ya?
Sure Michael Jackson was a great entertainer. But entertainers generally do not merit religious commemoration.
I wonder if this institution honored Jim Morrison when he died? Hey, at least "Light My Fire" plays well on the (church) organ!
I'm with you, Sinick; I think the whole thing is pretty weird.
It is pretty sad when churches feel the need to jump on any pop culture bandwagon that comes rolling by, especially one as vacuous as the Michael Jackson circus. Scripture's not good enough for Trinity anymore apparently.
I'm not sure what other "pop culture bandwagon" churches have jumped on, but I don't see church connecting with parishioners' secular lives a bad thing. If church teachings should have no relevance to current events, why even have humans deliver sermons; tape sermons years ahead of time and schedule them for random playback through a computer.
well if there is anyone who knows a thing or two about child molesters...it's Catholic Priests

its not a Catholic Church
That was lame.
