City Freezes Hiring Because Of State Senate Stalemate

2009_07_pograd.jpg Thanks to our coup-coup State Senate, the city has frozen all hiring. The State Senate hasn't been able to act on legislation that allows the city to maintain a balanced budget; Mayor Bloomberg said, "The gridlock in the State Senate imperils the City’s budget," and the hiring freeze "includes a class of 250 Police Recruits, who were set to enter the academy this week, along with Firefighters, School Safety Agents, 911 and 311 call takers, and EMTs. Further, we will be reviewing all City contracts to ensure we do not enter into non-essential contracts. We have a legal mandate to produce a balanced budget - something we’ve done for seven consecutive years - so we have to act responsibly." Also under pressure from the Senate's inaction: Yonkers, which is the 4th largest city in the state and which needs the Senate to pass bills so the State Comptroller can approve its budget.

It's a political ploy by Doucheberg. How about cutting back on city planning?
How about developers' tax breaks? Turdberg who say anything to get his way. His stated there would be riots and NYC would revert to communist Russia if mayoral control bill was not passed. He is so full of shit. BTW, he is a huge pot smoker.

If that shmuck did smoke pot I dont think he'd be pulling this BS.

Crack on the other hand is a whole other story.....

I think those bafoons in Albany are def smokin up....tall tale signs of lazy pot heads. sitting around do nothing.

You made the statement, now back it up. Evidence? Not a fan of Bloomie, but if he's a stoner (nothing wrong with that) put up or knock off the BTWs.

A hiring freeze might allow the city to save a little money. With little or no noticeable effect to most NYC taxpayers.

a hiring freeze will not save money it will cost lives. if essential city services are not met people will be at risk. imagine having to wait for an ambulance or firefighter while your house is burning to the ground-or being placed on hold b/c theres not enough 911 operators. money can be saved by not paying these a*&holes in albany rather than on the backs of the citizens who voted them in with the belief that they're safety and civil rights would be protected. besides espada doesnt even live in NYC and he's paid to represent the NYC tax payers-if money is the issue then he should be forced to live in the city to work here like many city employees are obligated to do. when the civil service employees start working they will spend their hard earned salaries in the city where they live unlike mr espada who only cares about his own agenda and not the needs of the people in NYC.

a hiring freeze will save money,
don't believe bloomturd's lies.
since when did he care about the regular people, I ask?
a hiring freeze will not make one iota of difference to most NY'ers. we live in a big city, stuff happens.
911 is a joke, learn CPR.

These are the dumbest comments I have ever read on the gothamist.

Haven't been here long, have you? You wouldn't believe...

the purpose of hiring freezes are to save money.
something the city doesn't have because we're not taxing the rich. 911 is a joke, learn CPR.
