Remember how last year the City Council made a big stink about milk price gouging, calling on the Department of Agriculture and Markets to enforce price limits after a study showed that 86% of NYC retailers are breaking the law by overcharging for milk? The department regulates the price of milk with a monthly cost calibration, but many grocery store owners are unaware the law even exists. It's one year later, and Councilman Eric Gioia—who's running for public-advocate—is still crying over the price of milk. Though there's been an 83% drop in the wholesale price of milk in the past 18 months, some Manhattan stores are still charging as high as $6 a gallon. The Agriculture Department just can't get it together to publish the monthly threshold price on its website, and at a press conference yesterday, Gioia told reporters that the department's milk price enforcement is virtually non-existent: "We have a state agency that's not doing its job. The Department of Agriculture went from bad to worse." With an election looming on the horizon, you can definitely expect Gioia to milk this issue for all its worth.

Gioia was clearly denied breast feeding as an infant. Somebody take this man to a tittie bar.
You might have a point there because the name Gioia was often used in the Italian communities to name an infant born out of wedlock and therefore suffered from having his birth mother feeding them.
"there's been an 83% drop in the wholesale price of milk" if that was so, and lets say the farmers were paid $.50 a gallon then, now they would be paid approximately $.09 a gallon? No wonder the small dairy farmer gave it up.
two words: soy milk.
Soy may not be the miracle food some people think. About ten years ago, there was a study (with a good size sample) that showed middle-age men who ate the most tofu were more likely to develop Alzheimer's, have shrinkage of the brain and even develop dementia. It wasn't a lot of tofu every week, either.
It also makes your testes shrink and gives you man b00bs, like Meatloaf.
Soy = ((you == man) ? bad : still gross)
I can believe what you said. There was a tofu factory next door to us for about fifteen years and about four in the afternoon they cleaned out their tanks or something else and I must tell you, I've been down wind of a manure spreader and that factory's exhaust would have peeled the paint on the spreader it was so bad.
I see more man boobs getting on those double decker tour buses than I have in Kyoto, Tokyo, and Saga where a lot of tofu is consumed and manufactured. I call bs.
Please learn how to read. Did I mention anything about manboobs? I could have sworn I was talking about brains, but you apparently see them only between the arms. Here, try something resembling a reputable source of information, namely the National Institutes of Health, abstracting a peer-reviewed study, rather than just one man putting his own thoughts on his own website.

in support of spirit of 76...
soy contains decently high levels of phytoestrogens.
phytoestrogens = man b00bs + testes shrinkage
in dissent to Felix the cat 2...
from the article you quoted: "But the evidence so far shows no sign that Alzheimer's disease involves a prion protein with the deformed structure seen in mad cow and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease."
If price is the issue, as it is here, soy milk is hardly the answer. It's a lot more expensive than the bovine variety.
As for soy causing Alzheimer's, well, that wouldn't surprise me.
"showed middle-age men who ate the most tofu were more likely to develop Alzheimer's, have shrinkage of the brain and even develop dementia."
You forgot that it'll also give those middle age men boobies because it contain phytoestrogen.
That's probably the answer for why the guys working at the tofu factory next door looked a bit strange. And you are right, I rarely saw them out at night. It was probably all that phyto that was being released in their urine.
Simply not true about Soy: http://www.foodrevolution.org/what_about_soy.htm
For a cynic, you're strangely quick to accept the word of a man with no scientific credentials whatsoever.
You believe everything wacko closet racist scientists tell you?
soy milk, cows smell.
man boobs? see phil mickelson.
twin pack of Silk $8 at whole foods. sometimes they have a sale where it's 2.50 a half gal.
Actually like soy in my coffee in the AM. But total fail with a bag of pretzels in the PM. Nothing like a cold mug of nonfat with a bag of Quinlans. But true, the prices in NYC (esp @ 2AM @ your local grocer) are criminal. Enforcement anyone? And yes, phytos in soy are an issue. Same with the sprouts (much less) & Tofu. For the health-minded amongst you, Budweiser is Phyto-free.
I have never had phyto poisoning in my life and I believe you have answered the question why. More Bud, less tofu soy burger organic geese waste processed as the alternate solution to the oncoming soylent green processing plant in Bayonne.
Perhaps if we went back to having cows graze in Central Park our children in the ghettos will be able to afford wholesome and fresh milk at an affordable price.
While we're being nostalgic, let's let Central Park become a slum again. That way the ghetto children will have easy access to this wholesome milk. Nobody will go hungry! Paradise!
Regular soy milk is pretty awful; chocolate soy milk however, is a creamy nectar from the great cosmic teat.
chocolate soy milk is so rich it's like a desert.
I make smoothies with vanilla soy milk, bananas, frozen strawberries or blueberries and some black strap molasses.
and I swear I didn't hear about lefty's mom when I posted above.
Cut that out, it sounds delicious! Especially with some Kahlua & Vodka, maybe raspberries & kiwi? Healthy Caucasian?

milk is blood and pus and the more milk you drink the more calcium you lose which is why America, the largest dairy drinker has the most bone diseases unlike countries that don't drink dairy as much.
Also soy milk doesn't cause man boobs, i seen many males who don't drink soy with man boobs. Also Almond milk is great and lower in calories
dude, you are a singular bastion of misinformation.
enjoy your osteoporosis hump and multiple hip replacement surgeries in your old age.
Whether or not you agree with Felix's broad and encompassing views on human/animal interaction, I encourage everyone to at least avoid paying any attention to Felix's nutritional advice and do your own research. I would suggest moderated and peer reviewed scientific journals as a starting point for the current "valid" ideas in the world of nutrition.
and for discussion, having adipose tissue in the pectoral area due to obesity, and the development of "mamary" tissue due to over abundace of phytoestrogens are two wholly different forms of man-b00bage.

soy vs. milk
Ummmm. Pus & pretzels! Need much! Will try your suggestion of almond milk in the morning Java though.
Better than Silk? Truly, any soy brands you might recommend? Will try, but it's gotta pass the pretzel test.

sold at wholefoods and other natural food markets. Taste great, healthy and the company has a good employee practice.
Disgusting conversation.
Dug up my old reference:

Perhaps Gioia would push for Agg or Consumer Affairs to mandate posting in markets of the statute & the price? And a complaint number, like the NYC-TAXI thing?
Better than just grandstanding. And translate it into multiple languages so the shop-owners can understand it.

Meat industry doesn't want studies on the link between alzheimer and the prion protein, which can cause mad cow disease and other maladies.

Viddy well, my brother!
I think we're all shagged and fagged and fashed.
Calcium is in every natural food that we eat. And, believe it or not, there are actually foods that are higher in calcium than our beloved milk. Little sesame seeds do not have the backing of a massive Dairy Board to advertise their nutritional quality. Yet a cup of these humble little seeds contains 2,200 mg. of calcium compared with the 280 mg. of calcium in a cup of milk.
The Bantu women of Africa live on a sparse diet of vegetable sources. A diet completely free of dairy foods. Their average intake of calcium is 250 to 400 mg a day. This is far lower than the 800 mg. recommended by the RDA. They give birth to as many as ten babies during their life. Each child is breast-fed for ten months. Although childbearing causes an intense calcium drain, osteoporosis is unknown to these people. When Bantu women migrate to the city and adopt a protein-rich diet, osteoporosis and other diseases become a threat to their health.
In 1984, the Medical Tribune reported studies by Michigan State and other universities regarding bone densities. It was the most extensive study yet undertaken. They discovered that, in the United States, at age 65, male vegetarians averaged a 3% bone loss. Male meat-eaters averaged a 7% bone loss. Female vegetarians averaged an 18% bone loss. Female meat-eaters averaged a 35% bone loss. The conclusion was that vegetarians were found to have significantly stronge
Cut and paste, with no sources. Nice.
