Guess Ruth Madoff is on the streets—the U.S. Marshals have seized her and her husband's East 64th Street penthouse apartment. The AP reports, "U.S. Marshal Joseph Guccione said Thursday that the marshals were at the property pursuant to a court order." Newsday explains that Ruth Madoff gets $2.5 million as soon as she vacates the Upper East Side duplex, which is worth $7 million, so maybe that's why the seizure happened so soon after her agreement giving up her three homes last week. However, it's been tough for her to find an apartment—apparently landlords aren't interested in having such a notorious tenant. Update: The U.S. Marshals say that they arrived at noon and that Ruth Madoff left all personal property, "We have possession of their furniture and everything in it." Her lawyer said, "Ruth moved out voluntarily pursuant to prior agreements we had reached with the government," but did not offer Madoff's forwarding address.

The rent's free in fed penhouse.
The rent's free in Fed Penthouse.
Ruth will be sleeping in Port Authority tonight. Or the Elk Hotel on 9th and 42nd.
Or the Hotel Carter, which awaits her with fresh linens and gleaming fixtures...oh who am I kidding? They just threw out a crusty bum and the mattress is only wet on one side, so cheers!
Ruthie. I have a spare bedroom that will be available in mid August when my younger son goes to college. Would you be interested? It's only $200 a night plus it has cable and it's own window AC unit. It's convenient to local transportation and great night life if you are into that sort of thing.
Act now or be priced out forever.
Just what the city needs: another homeless person!
I wonder how much of her stuff she gets to keep? Is there a limit, like "you can fill two suitcases with clothes, etc, and then get out!"
I believe she's eligible for Medicaid/Medicare benefits since she paid into it I guess. Plus social security, assisted living coupons and food stamps, I think she will make it through her twilight years quite nicely.
Unfortunately she will be put on the waiting list for affordable housing, but what the hey, she's got nothing but time left on her hands. But then again idle hands are the devil's workshop. Maybe she could start an investment firm with a catchy name like Ruth Madoff Assured Equity Investments LLC.
She can always use the stage name of baby Ruth and work the pole
Eww.
That would be an interesting career change but I doubt she could make a serious living like she was accustomed to dodging coins from the nickel slot players down in AC.
How about naming a candy bar baby Ruth? When you open it up you don't get a candy bar but a free offer to send in $50 to the Madoff candy company for another free baby Ruth bar?
It's really a shame that they let her keep 2.5 million.
The woman worked hard and continuously to earn that money when she was working as the assistant librarian for the Piscataway Public library. How can someone deny her of her well deserved pension benefits?
I thought she had invested in savings bonds after Bernie ran off the pimp. But she must have saved before because she could no longer buy them with tens and twenties.
By God I think you are right. Ruth is a few years older than me but I remember back in grammar school buying those savings bond stamps, licking them and filling the books with them so I could buy a penthouse on the upper east side when I grew up.
I sure hope her tongue has recovered from the exertion. Let's see, 2.5 million dollars divided by nickle stamps equals...
