She says that as Witriol arrested her, "He punched me in the back (there are bruises), he handcuffed me, and in the scuffle grabbed my breasts and pinched them." And Jason Wagner, another passer-by who took these photos, tells us Witriol said, "Do you wanna talk like a woman? Do you wanna get knocked around like a woman?"
But witness Viane Delgado tells the Post that Witriol "repeatedly" asked Brodigan to place the pug "in a carrier she had." (Brodigan says she'd been carrying the dog in a tote bag, but it had vomited in there, which is why she was carrying it out of the station.) Delgado goes on to insist that during the argument, Brodigan told the cop, "You f---ing Jew, you're not even human." And an unidentified source tells the Post that Brodigan also exclaimed, "Jewish people think they own everything."
It's impressive that the Post tracked down a witness and "a source" so quickly, since they emailed us at 5:10 p.m. to request information, twenty minutes after we published the story yesterday. (Perhaps the NYPD put them in touch with Delgado?) Regardless, witness Melissa Randazzo tells us, "That absolutely did not happen. I did not hear any comments like that at all." We asked Brodigan via email to confirm or deny the allegations of anti-Semitism, and her full response is below:
I think that this event is going to some very dark places that I don't have experience with. I don't recall making the remarks that the witness is referring to. I was definitely not my most graceful self and was crying and begging for help from the witnesses who were there. After being roughed up and being told, "If you want to act like a woman I'm going to treat you like a woman," I was at my least articulate. I'm pretty sure I uttered a few profanities, I'm also pretty sure I begged for the ticket, my dog, and to be released to go home. Witnesses called the police for help because it was such a crazy situation.I was contacted by about a dozen people yesterday through Facebook who offered to testify. I'm not sure what to do at this point. It's a lot of drama for a pug.

I don't believe you can uphold the law if you don't believe women have equal rights. When an officer of the law threatens, beats, and oppresses a woman on the basis that she's acting like a woman—that's the problem. An utterance of profanity seems normal—at that point all a person has left is her voice. I was begging for help and not using the moment as a platform for antisemitism.

Technically, Delgado did not claim that Brodigan said "Jewish people think they own everything". Only the "source" made that claim.

Actually, if she didn't physically resist, it doesn't matter what she said -- she could have been cursing like a Russian sailor, and she wouldn't have been resisting arrest. (Not that it's a good idea, of course.)
The words DO matter. I will use an extreme, hypothetical example. If she shouted to a friend to punch, shoot, or harm the cop, that could be considered resisting...at the very least, it would be a gray area.

As one who was most certainly not there, I cannot help but notice that Chrissie does not at any point deny having said those antisemitic remarks. Pretty interesting.
Some other observations:
It is not illegal to have a small dog in the subway, but it is a misdemeanor to fail to have one in the proper container.
She admits to resisting arrest. I think one is right to resist arrest if one is being searched or seized without cause, but she was clearly in violation of the (albeit small) law. Thereupon, one should politely abide.
It sounds like she was a real mean hornet when this cop tried to cite her, but also that he was an abusive prick.
She should make clear when and under what circumstances she was "punched". She claims she was punched in the back, but does not show any pictures of her back, only under her arms and wrists. What's her claim?
Cops should diffuse nasty confrontations, not escalate them. In my experience with the geniuses at NYPD, they are hotheaded and quick to take things very, very personally. It's ok for a person to get way overheated when being accused and/or detained, but it's not OK for a cop to take it to a whole new level because his pride is hurt.

One last thing. When I was 18 I got caught for jumping a turnstyle. The cop who caught me was undercover. I told him I'd pay the fare but that didn't work. Then I got frustrated and asked him who he shot to get transit detail arresting kids for jumping turnstyles.
He booked me and threw me in jail for a roughly 20 hours.
Guess what I've never done since? I've never mouthed off to a cop since and i've certainly never called one an asshole, much less a racial slur.
I don't see how this story is anything more than a case in point of how NOT to act when being talked to by a police officer - no matter how entitiled or in the right she thought she was.
If this girl had a real gripe she should have kept her mouth shut got his badge number and filed a complaint - not escalate it into this cluster fuck of a situation.

She makes no attempt to deny that she said these things, which leads me to believe the Post story is accurate. The question is did she say them before or after the cop touched her? If it was before, then she should consider herself lucky she only got some bruises and call it a day.
Regardless of the timing of her alleged comments, you don't challenge a cop. Even if you're right, you will lose.
Also, get a proper carrier bag with lots of ventilation if you're going to transport your dog. A backpack is not adequate. You'd throw up if you were stuffed in a nylon sack, too.

Wow, you're really putting words in my mouth here, according to her account he hit her in the back (no picture of that) and pinched her. In what world does that translate into "beat up"? If you want to say she was sexually harassed, fine, I'll give you that, yes the cop was being inappropriate, but you're adding invective to the story that is inappropriate even if we're going by her account alone.
As for the bruises, she did mention getting hit by prisoners who shared a cell with her which is more likely to have caused those marks than anything she said the cop did.

I spoke up and spoke out and asked for help. I also asked to be given a ticket, so I could just go home. I was sarcastic and irreverent because it was utterly clear that I had a pug with a problem.
I'm admitting that I wasn't 100% poised or articulate. I'm not an anti-semite or a racist. I do hate people who cause harm to my physical person and who threaten defenseless dogs.

--- Yes. He overheated on the subway and threw up. Like a parent with a sick child I was trying to make him comfortable and get out of the subway as fast as possible and to a source of cold water. I wanted the ticket, but did not have photo ID, which is where things fell to shit.

-You were detained, cuffed, and brought to the precinct with your dog
-You were spit on by your cellmates

This is just a good example of the fact that white people don't know how to behave with cops. Due to the nature of their jobs and all of the slime that they have to deal with, they can be kind of like wild animals. You have to be very careful not to make the wrong move. They can be a great help to you and wonderful people and they can also be big jerks. It has nothing to do with race or religion.
I think this cop behaved like an asshole, but this woman did everything wrong. Learn the words "Yes Sir" and "No Sir", practice them. The angier cops get, the more subservient you have to get - it's the only way to calm them down. They may still accidentally shoot you in the back, but the chances of this happening are dramatically reduced if you follow my advice.

I don't believe she was making anti-semitic comments. And even if she was, he is to blame for being completely out of line and degrading her as a woman, then sexually molesting her. Under those circumstances, people can say things that they don't mean. (Though it seems doubtful that she actually said those things.) Hasid or not, a police officer should be held to a higher standard and mysoginistics and sexual harassers like that are a disgrace to all who wear the uniform and believe in the supposed integrity of our police force.

Your intended destination, whether to get to a train or to head for the exit, is irrelevant as the applicability of this law. She violated the law, this police officer had probable cause to stop her for this violation and to either effect an arrest or issue a summons, whatever was most appropriate according to the circumstances. Clearly, he attempted to issue the summons but she a) failed to comply with his order to stop and provide identification, and then b) resisted arrest when the officer concluded that her lack of identification and overall refusal to cooperate would require the arrest to be effected.

I cant respect police or the local government in NYC because of exactly this type of thing. On Dean St and 6th Ave in Prospect Heights there is a Police Station and a Fire Station which conveniently have a playground for kids just behind the precinct and next door to the fire station. The playground is literally feet from the police and fire station, yet there is continuous drug dealing and drinking at this playground. I think the problem with these web "forums" is that it attracts extreme opinions on both sides and leads to name-calling, race-baiting and everything in-between. While I guess it's good for people to vent and can often uncover how people really feel, it doesn't do any real good.
The truth of the matter is that, most likely, what really happened lies somewhere in between. She probably did things she's regrets, and he probably did things he regrets, but in the end, this is not really that big of a deal. Hopefully, she'll be given a $100 fine, pay it, and everyone will move on.
At a bare minimum, taking away the dog and then the threat to kill the dog seems like it could lay a good foundation for a suit for the intentional infliction of emotional distress.
