Serial Drunk Driver Pleads Guilty To 15th DWI Offense

070109drinkydrivy.jpg New Jersey's Shuan Campbell is the Pete Rose of drunk driving—the hits just keep coming! In April he chalked up his 15th drunken crash, when he smashed his SUV head-on into a pickup carrying a man and his 4-year-old daughter. Fortunately, the father and daughter were not seriously injured in the accident, after which Campbell tried to flee the police by running (staggering?) into a park. Yesterday the 40-year-old East Rutherford resident admitted his blood-alcohol level was .288 percent, or more than triple the state's .08 percent level. Prosecutors are seeking a maximum prison term of more than two years for Campbell, whose license has been suspended 78 times . According to WCBS, he'll also lose his driver's license for at least another 10 years, but we have a feeling neither prison nor a lack of license nor tougher drunk driving laws will hold Campbell back from swerving straight to the top of the charts. (He still faces drunken-driving charges in Pequannock and Wayne, New Jersey, too!)

All rabid alcoholic drivers just need to be put out of their misery. We have over 300 million people in this country, no need to worry about a scum-slick on top.

Come on people it's his only 15th DWI. He only popped .288, it's not like he was impaired or anything.

THESE PEOPLE SHOULD BE PUT AWAY! PLAIN AND SIMPLE!

Nope. I was wrong and harsh about what should be done with these individuals after the 6th DWI. They should be used as crash dummies for the auto industries. If they survive they can get their license back.

SUVs should have their own liscence class: if you have EVER had a DUI- no SUV for you.

How does a guy get 78 DWIs and nothing happens to him? Are the lawyers that advertise help with DWIs paying off judges? Gotta be something like that. I can understand getting 2 because he's got problem, then come down on him with jail time after the 3rd. 10 DWIs is an unreasonable number. Who gave him back his license after the 15th, the 35th, the 50th and the 77th? This is total corruption and we need a public defender to defend the public and not the serial offender.

"A Stamford police officer allegedly punched a woman in the forehead for driving without a license. According to the AP, "Stamford police say they haven't received a formal complaint against Officer Gregory Zach, but they began investigating anyway because the incident is serious."

This makes me feel a little better but she'll probably walk.

His license was suspended 78 times. This is his 15th DWI.

I hate to think it, but unfortunately, it looks like he'll have to kill someone first before he gets big time.

  • nik13

But then he'll get only a year in prison.

He was clearly driving w/o valid insurance. In NJ, first DWI means traffic tickets, automatic 6 mos suspension & $1000 fine for 3 consecutive years. Nobody would re-insure a clown like him. Many of his suspensions must have come from not paying his tix.

If there's any justice in the universe, that someone he kills will be himself.

At the very least, the judge should require a permanent ignition interlock on this guy's car.

  • arrogantnative

It's just insane that there isn't a 3 strikes law for assholes like this...how about a 15 strikes law?

They should lock him up and throw away the key.

  • Quidnam

The trouble is that Americans view driving as some kind of inalienable, god-given right. Somehow the rights of others that are routinely endangered barely enter into it.

  • nicemarmot

I've got an idea: tie the number of years in prison to the number of DUIs. One DUI, one year. Two DUIs, two years. Fifteen DUIs - fifteen years!

  • bmfesq

And guys with three marijuana convictions goto jail for life? Really now.

  • Think2wice

Drinking is the national pastime and lord knows America is car-centric. Put the two together and why wouldn't he end up serving only 6 months of his maximum two year sentence. Oh, that and a scolding from the judge.

  • Think2wice

    Amen.
