Park Envy: LIC Opens Waterfront Oasis

Gantry Plaza State Park: you had us at hammocks. Seriously, the people in charge of the Williamsburg waterfront park need to take a cue from the Queens West waterfront, which Curbed reports took a big step today from "casually-accepted planned community to, dare we say, desired urban oasis." Alongside the aforementioned hammocks are lounge chairs, a promenade, the Pepsi sign, and sweet lush green grass. Now if only the fireworks were on the East River this year, we'd suggest staking a spot out now.

Who puts hammocks over concrete? They are supposed to be over grass. I see huge lawsuits as people lay in them and they are flipped over onto the concrete.

i see me having a better chance to score a hammock when other people can't figure out how not to get flipped over

you sure its concrete and not the soft material they use in a lot of playgrounds?

Luxury park for luxury condo dwellers

The Queensbridge Houses are a stone's throw away.

Why can't they repair the crumbling seawall at Queensbridge Park (let alone installing hammocks or lounge chairs)? Buttface has a point.

If a stone can be thrown about a mile.

Can't wait to see the photo Gallery in September when the grass is all brown and mud!

gretchen! stop trying to make LIC happen!

Dude it's hapenning!

They should suspend an I-beam in the middle of the park so everyone can have their own iconic Robert Moses moment.

How long until these hammocks and lounge chairs smell like feces and urine?
