Bird Strike On Incoming American Airlines Flight at LaGuardia

063009lga.jpg We're getting preliminary reports about an "aircraft emergency" this morning at LaGuardia airport, where an incoming American Airlines flight was hit by a bird strike when coming in for a landing. No injuries are being reported, but paramedics were called to meet the plane at gate 10, apparently as a precaution. The pilot also reported a "hydraulic leak in the nose gear." The incident comes as the city moves to euthanize 2,000 geese within 5 miles of airports during their molting season, in an effort to prevent another crash like the one that befell Flight 1549.

Attempting to be unbiased here. But really the safety of HUMANS is more important than 2000 birds. The birds familes wont mind, theyll forget.

If more birds cause an incident with a plane the country will be going balistic and trying to kill every bird in site.

Im for the humane killing of these problem birds.

  • felixthecat2

see their comments (Dadoc, snoopy, valeriob, deadhimmler) on the woman manhandled by the police. No surprise they also rejoice about her abuse as well.

I believe you left out NannyState in your list.

And what might I ask was so terrible about my observation on the woman that assaulted by the cop?

Stay to the storyline. You still haven't come up with a solution. You never do. All you do is say, SAVE THE GEESE! SAVE THE GEESE!

I read all the crap on that geesepeace org site you recommended and it's all rhetoric and no viable solutions to a large metropolitan area's problem with these large size flying rats.

All you do is reflect back on topics you don't even know about.

  • dadoc

Hereby casting my vote for the reduction of useless biomass in NYC by methods other than poison. Poison can kill the local Redtails, Kestrels, Peregrines, etc. Anybody up for some easing of regs on traditional (low-velocity) weapons & upping predator programs? Love watching my local raptors have their lunch.

  • felixthecat2

I hope people report snoopy whose nasty and juvenile comments only perverse this site

  • Snoopy

OK that decides it. In a vote of 18 to 3 the forum has decided to kill most, if not all, geese, pigeons, sea gulls, squirrels, rats, sparrows, and starlings through poisoned feed and then take same and feed the meat to the homeless and people living in prisons and public housing.

Can I get a vote from the floor?

  • Dead Himmler

Im in. Actually house sparrows are one of the only birds you can legally kill anytime. Had to take care of a nest for shitting on my car.

  • Snoopy

    DH I hear your suffering.

Do you realize how many Camaro's and TransAms are suffering out there across the river because of all this bird shit? I'm not talking small block crap, I'm talking BIG! BLOCK.

And then you get a punk who wants to save the universe one goose at a time.

    Go figure.

  • Snoopy

Am I seeing double or is Gothamist doing the double post fox trot again?

  • Snoopy

"I wonder what will happen if bloomturd's horsies eat said geese in feed or whatever form it's being use."

Unfortunately the horses will have to deal with an ongoing cough. Not so much due to the feed, but the goose feathers will constantly cause them to cough and also an occasion hiccup. It tickles their throats I've been told.

That is what happens when you mix Canadian geese and Arabian horses. Again it's just something I read in the Post or saw on Fox 5.

  • JacqueMehoff

this is just more short term solution think.

bloomturd will be putting out bids for this killing.

I see drewo post it already.

I wonder what will happen if bloomturd's horsies eat said geese in feed or whatever form it's being use.

  • valeriob

Ok I have an angle that works for geese killers and geese fuckers alike...

Residing in the metropolis that is New York City, the lives of these geese are subject to air pollution, dangerous humans, and now dangerous airplanes.

We humans should leave New York or kindly ask the geese to leave. Those crafty sarcastic geese will likely resist being that they're french. i do not care.

So we laugh like foxes all the way to the bank, and the color 'light urple' will finally be accepted by the crayola people. in the meantime joe pesci pops in to support gay marriage and's like "ayyy".

where has that darn kool-aid guy been anyway?

and what ever happened to lisa turtle?

I'm glad you're all seeing things more clearly now.

  • valeriob

Who's got two thumbs and thinks these geese should be exterminated?

    This guy!!

  • ldk0364

Possibility of saving human lives > birds

  • felixthecat2

killing doesn't save lives, it is only to feed the ignorant masses.

  • drewo

Changing the habitat would actually involve work, and some thought.

Most folks would rather just kill something, even if it's not the best solution. Isn't America great?

  • ma bell

actually it is great to live in a country that favors the lives of its contributing members of society over those of worthless pests.

  • ma bell

why stop at the geese...and why stop at 2000? get rid of all of them! and while you're at it...get rid of the pigeons, too. i'm sick of getting pooped on and having our statues and structures full of pigeon shit!

felix, you are one messed up individual.

  • TrippinJoJo

wow some folks here are sick in the head.

  • Snoopy

Right you are Jo. Some of them should be culled from the "flock" so to speak.

  • Global Wombat

    Yeah...

    Great, ain't it?

  • Snoopy

Who is this fixthecat2 person? Is he the same person they call "the Gooseman of Ninth Avenue" who works for a PEE firm that mops the floors of porn theater booths late at night?

I can see adding seagulls to the extermination program also. Also goose up the geese kill to 4000 while your at it mayor Bloomberg. Congrats!

This whole program would cost nothing and make money for the city if you allowed hunters to pop them off and charge them a license fee for doing same.

  • nicemarmot

I have a theory about felix. I think he's the same guy I run into every morning while out walking my dog, throwing crumbs all over for the flying rats. Every morning it's the same thing - he tries to feed the flying rats, and I promptly sic my dog on his flying rats. Then he runs toward my dog as if he's going to scare her away. Fat chance, sucka. Stay away from my building felix!

  • felixthecat2

That's not a theory but a presumption. Not only do people that abuse animals also abuse people but people that are ignorant support cruelty. that for proving me right fool

  • nicemarmot

HA! I knew it was you felix!

  • felixthecat2

LOL, you would be too scared to approach me.

  • NannyState

As Bloomberg's people are now well aware...

  • Homer2323

Perhaps felix will shut up when its his plane that crashes into the Hudson. But you could die in a plane crash, and then you wont have to worry about the geese.

He can become a geese martyr. Lay down your life for the geese!

  • felixthecat2

Perhaps you should get a brain and realize that that last 2 major crashes that killed over hundreds of people had nothing to do with birds. Killing birds is not a solution but changing the habitat will prevent such rare accidents to occur.

  • Dead Himmler

Gassing them is not only a humane way to deal with this problem but it could also lead to a superior stock of bird that would avoid metropolitan airports.

  • felixthecat2

This is your comment on the 83 year old man's tragic death. "Minutes earlier after getting in a fight with his wife she regrettably told him to "Eat shit and die". SHAME ON YOU

  • hotstepper

    kill those fucking infidel birds!

  • datswhatsup

AGAIN, THE BIRDS THAT HIT THE HUDSON RIVER FLIGHT WERE FLYING FROM FUCKING CANADA. KILLING GEESE DOESN'T FIX ANYTHING.

  • dr zippy

Clearly we need to also kill the geese migrating from Canada.

  • hotstepper

geese migrate in the early spring (following the snow melt)and in the fall. last time i checked it was friggin' summer. kill'em.

  • felixthecat2

What do I expect form Dr zippy and Hotstepper who made tasteless joke about the elderly man who fell in the raw sewage? Those as Bloomberg who have no compassion for other species also have no compassion for their own.

  • dr zippy

What do I expect form Dr zippy and Hotstepper who made tasteless joke about the elderly man who fell in the raw sewage?

Oh, felixthewondercat, where do I begin? I didn't even read the story about the man who died in the sewage, let alone make a tasteless joke about him.

  • felixthecat2

No it was dead himmler and hotsteeper. proves time and time again that people who abuse animals also abuse people..

  • hotstepper

get your facts straight before spouting off, easy mark. geese do not migrate this time of year and in fact they molt during the summer and cannot fly for up to 4 weeks. pull your head out of your ass and read a book.

  • felixthecat2

Where do I state geese migrate this time of the year? in fact a lot of the local geese don't migrate since they are feed by locals such as in central park. Also it doesn't surprise me that the same person who found humor in a elderly man tragic death also makes light of the geese slaughter.

  • hotstepper

"AGAIN, THE BIRDS THAT HIT THE HUDSON RIVER FLIGHT WERE FLYING FROM FUCKING CANADA..."

"CAPS or no Caps, he/she is right. It is fact the geese were not locals but migratory."

    ------------------------------------

if you (now) concur that they are not migrating from canada this time of year then you admit they are locals, in which case they must be dealt with to assure the safety of airline passengers. what's it gonna be sister-boy? more contradictory posits?

  • felixthecat2

Hello, the local geese are molting, they can't fly during molting. Read your own comment.

  • datswhatsup

they were not molting during the time of the flight you disgusting pig.

  • valeriob

WRITING IN ALL CAPS DOESN'T AUTOMATICALLY VALIDATE YOUR ASSUMPTION

  • datswhatsup

I didn't say anything about validation, I wanted you to fuckin listen.

  • datswhatsup

  • felixthecat2

CAPS or no Caps, he/she is right. It is fact the geese were not locals but migratory.

  • felixthecat2

I hope a geese retaliates against Bloomberg's private jet on its way to Bahamas where Doucheberg plays with boys.

  • jibbly
  • felixthecat2

Mayor Bloomberg's obscene and brutal plan to roundup and gass over 2000 helpless resident geese while they are molting and unable to fly in NYC is another display of his lack of compassion for animals and people.

The claims that killing these geese will make air travel safer are completely false, and this waste of taxpayer money is funding a senseless slaughter of our urban wildlife.

  • CR

"another display of his lack of compassion for animals and people"

Wait - people have been flying into airplane engines too?!?

  • felixthecat2

Are you obtuse, where do I state people fly into engines? so lame.

  • CR

Well, you said that Bloomberg had a lack of compassion for "animals and people", so I just assumed that since you stated he was gassing gesse that he was also gassing people. And if he's gassing people, he must be doing so because they're somehow flying into airplane engines, or, at least in this case, impacting their nose gear while in flight.

  • felixthecat2

Yes Bloomberg has a lack of compassion towards people as well. Where do I say he gasses people? he outzones people and small businesses for the real estate developers. I am sure if he could that Doucheberg would gas people as well.

  • valeriob

I love the use of the word befell!
