NYC Mourns Michael Jackson's Death

After the news of music legend Michael Jackson's sudden death yesterday, New Yorkers expressed their grief and remembered the "King of Pop" all over the city. The Reverend Al Sharpton issued a statement, "A friend of Michael's for the last 35 years, I call on people around the world to pray for him and his family in the hour... I have known him at his high moments and his low moments and I know he would want us to pray for his family," and later held court outside the Apollo Theatre—which is where the Jackson 5 was discovered—where he said, "I watched him sell stadiums out. Michael Jackson made culture accept a person of color way before Tiger Woods, way before Oprah Winfrey, way before Barack Obama. Michael did with music what they later did with sports, and in politics and in television and no controversy will erase the historic impact." Here's video:

Dancing broke out on 125th Street, in front of the Apollo, and the Daily News reports people chanted, "Michael! Michael! Michael!" A number 2 train subway conductor announced his death to commuters. And a Brooklyn fan said, "We were around to see his rise and fall. I feel disappointed." Radio stations switched to Michael Jackson songs, leaving bicyclists and pedestrians and riding or walking by cars with a Michael Jackson greatest hits soundtrack.

A 13-year-old Manhattan resident told the Post, "I pray that he's still singing and dancing in heaven.... I was shocked. I ran to the guitar store and asked them if it was true. It makes me pray that nothing happens to my mom because she's older than Michael Jackson." A tourist from Maryland said, "He was so young. I hope he had enough time to say, Lord have mercy on my soul. This loss hurts. I hugged my family and told [them] that I love them. This is as iconic a day as when Kennedy was shot."

I saw two kinds of people yesterday and I don't know which one is worse. People who were laughing at the death of a human being and people who were praising, canonizing and worshipping a known pedophile.

Actually BH (and OTC), he was never found guilty of pedophilia. Think what you want, it's not a proven fact. And say what you will about how weird or eccentric he was or the fact that he said there's nothing wrong with inviting children to share your bed, at least admit to yourselves that you've also said and done things that others could use against you to make you into monsters.

I never paid out an 8 figure settlement to someone accusing me of child molestation, paying out that kind of settlement is pretty much an admission of guilt.

No it's not. He could afford to pay that and not go through the mess of a public trial. And as is clear here and elsewhere, in this country most folks consider accusations to be the equivalent of guilty charges.

What? I feel like it makes more of a case for Jackson. Everyone who worked at Neverland and gave a "witness" account of molesting was paid money for their story by tabloids.

Whether or not you give the benefit of the doubt to the kids, you have to at least acknowledge that the parents maybe saw $$$.

Really? Is that written in the law books somewhere? I know flight is an admission of guilt (Hello OJ), but nowhere is it recorded that hush money is an admission of guilt. I'm just saying that unless you are omniscient, you don't truly know (and neither do I).

An LA jury let OJ walk too but that doesn't mean he wasn't guilty.

I don't think he was a peedophile, I think he wanted to be a child. Weird I know, but he was severly abused as a child and probably didn't have a childhood.

The man needed psychotherapy, that much is true, but he did not deserver the public torment that the media put him through.

most kids who were abused as children are pedophiles.

Well now that's a stupid thing to say.

Perhaps you meant to say that the other way around?

Yeah. I meant to say Most pedos were abused as kids. Anyway, here's exhibit 11991292399292922929 on MJ being a NAMBLA member: "In March 2009 Jackson tried to block items from his Neverland Ranch from going up for auction. Works of art included on the list were listed as follows: boy with accordion,” “boy sitting on bricks,” “boy w/ baton and hat w/ feathers,” “two boys on swing bar,” “two boys with ladder,” “boys sleeping on bench,” “boys milking goat,” “boy on a toy car with girl,” “boy pulling, 2 boys on a bike,” “boy lifting girl” and “2 boys sitting on a sunflower.”
There is a doll bedroom, a large room with a canopied bed that is crowded with dozens of dolls. Many more dolls, some with sad faces, some smiling, peer at you from every nook and cranny. A three-story, elaborately furnished doll house containing miniature figures sits on one side of the room." Now, I have to take a shower and cry for writing this shit. ick-nast.

"This is as iconic a day as when Kennedy was shot"

WTF?? - Is that guy smoking crack?? It's not even as iconic as the JR was shot.

Jackson was a weird twisted pedophile, if it wasn't for all of his money he'd have just been some weirdo trying to lure children over the internet.

But the kids were white, so Al probably wants to turn a blind eye to that. And, Al will stop at nothing for some publicity.

Iconic is a really strange word to use in this instance.

"This is as iconic a day as when Kennedy was shot."
Which Kennedy? You mean both?

I'd rank this lower than the day Kurt Cobain died.

Agreed. Cobain was a druggie but he was still young and at the peak of his career, while MJ was a mentally and physically ill recluse who hadn't produced anything notable in almost 20 years.

"I know he would want us to pray for his family."

Ok, I'll bite. Dear Lord: Please make sure that Prince Michael Jackson II never has to use the same fork, knife, or spoon twice. I would not want him to catch his own germs and die. Also, no more LaToya in Playboy. Thank you.

...but the real tragedy was when my friend Michael began turning into a white person...

Who is this 'person of color' that Sharpton is talking about?

Al Sharpton is such media whore.

To Al it's all about Al all the time.

Ignore him. Change the channel. Let the media know you'll change the channel anytime you see him. I'm starting a movement.

MJ had such a huge effect on NYC. Everytime I'm in manhattan SOMEONE is playing MJ and dancing to him...even from hits that are 30 years old.

Human Nature was his greatest serenade to the city.

I plan on ass raping you soon.

if everyone stopped being racist al sharpton would not have a career, in fact he would cease to exist. wait, hold on, i just realized he's a racist prick as well, who thrives on just that... my bad.

ima pee on that.

Has Reverend Al settled his tax situation yet?

Jockeys will wear black armbands out of respect for Michael Jackson who successfully rode more 3 yr olds than anyone in living memory.

McDonald’s are bringing out the Michael Jackson tribute burger. 50 year old meat between two 7 year old buns

Reports of Michael Jackson having a heart attack are incorrect. He’s been found in the children’s ward having a stroke.

When Farrah Fawcett arrived in Heaven, God was such a big fan he decided to grant her one wish. She asked that all the children in the world could be safe. So God killed Michael Jackson.

Michael Jackson died of shock after finding out Boyz II Men was a band, not a delivery service.

Michael Jackson actually died of food poisoning. He ate some 12 year old nuts. Punchline # 2: a five-year old wiener.

Michael Jackson’s legal team announced that he had agreed to be melted down by undertakers to make plastic toys. So, kids can play with him for a change.

What did the woman on the beach say to Michael Jackson? Excuse me, you're in my son.

man, half of these are brilliant. the other half, not so much so.

Any normal person accused of being a pedophile that believed they were innocent would fight tooth and nail to clear their name. Not just pay off whoever they had to to just make it all go away. I guess the key word here is normal!

I hope you all rot in hell you heartless bastards.

Furthermore, I hope strangers mock your death.

He have may some terrible mistake in his life but he introduces a lot a joy into a lot of people's lives. Something I doubt any one of you idiots can say.

I can only imagine all the "joy he brought into your life" between 1993 and 2009...

what a lame ass joke from a lame ass person. Go back under your rock.

"Keep believing in the magic! Don't let them fool you with their allegations, they're ignorant!"

His concert series shouldn't be cancelled just because he's 'technically dead'. He's had so much work done that no embalming is necessary and his last "live" performance was as fast-paced and exhilarating as a Senior Turkey Trot 5k Walkathon. I say the show must go on!

Stop, the life you save may be your own.

I love how all of a sudden millions of people who have most likely made fun of him and his weirdness, abuse accusations, looks, etc. are coming out of the woodwork paying tribute to him as if they never made fun of him. His death is shocking to almost everyone, yes, but most of us are guilty of laughing at his expense. Now that he's gone it's okay to act like that never happened? Now all of a sudden people are holding up RIP MJ signs, dancing in the street, updating Facebook statuses with statements telling everyone how much he meant to them?

A lot of those people who are praising him in the streets have done so even when he was at his lowest. Remember his child molestation trial when there were hoards of fans outside the courthouse holding signs and wailing? Remember that creepy woman releasing the doves? Not all of us remember his final years for what they were, horrifying and tragic

Man did Al have a photo taken with him and everyone so he could siphon media attention at their passings, (James Brown...etc) I mean damn...

Don't forget his other motive: the free food at funerals.

I'm enjoying the misspelled "Micheal Jackson" on the car in photo #4. Noble effort.

at least sharpton was there to profit off another death. he's doing wonders for the black community. and get those damn lawn chairs out of times square. this city has gotten so tacky.

So basically a lot of Harlem idiots are celebrating a black man who hated the fact he was born black.

Yeah, that makes sense.
