Television icon and '70s sex symbol Farrah Fawcett passed away today in a hospital in Santa Monica, California. According to Newsday, the anal cancer she had been suffering from since 2005 had recently spread to her liver. A documentary TV program about her rounds of treatments for the disease, "A Wing and a Prayer," aired last month, and her death comes just days after actor Ryan O'Neal revealed plans to marry Fawcett. Aaron Spelling, who cast her in "Charlie's Angels," wrote in his memoir, "We were looking for a California beach girl type and Farrah was perfect for that. She was drop-dead gorgeous and the living image of the beautiful blonde in tennis shorts or a bathing suit." Recalling her work on the series, Fawcett once said, "When the show was number three, I figured it was our acting. When it got to be number one, I decided it could only be because none of us wears a bra." And Robert Greenwald, the producer who cast her in her most respected TV role, in "The Burning Bed," says Fawcett "went places that a beautiful star like her had not gone and that will have a lasting mark."

I love this poster,.
I had this poster on my bedroom wall when I was a kid...
i feel so bummed, I had this poster as kid as well and I was madly in love with her. R.I.P Farrah.
It was okay, but I always preferred Cheryl Tiegs in the pink bikini.
I'm saddened to hear this.
she did everything she could to fight the cancer something many people can't do due to no health insurance.
she went so far as to get in a private jet to get treatment in Germany for a chemo treatment that floods the tumor.
we really have to get healthcare in this country fixed.
true but a lot of the diseases that happen in the states can be prevented through diet changes. People just don't do it.
Very expensive, experimental treatments with dubious outcomes would (and should) be the first things to go with healthcare reform.
And *everybody* had that poster. Hmmmm....nipples.
I can go along with that 100 percent. I'm just saying the rich will do what they can because they're rich.
they've never been denied a treatment plan or late submission of claim or denial of service etc etc.
I'm satisfied with the standard proven treatments given.
that's all I ask.
all proven treatments were once experimental
So were all crackpot treatments.
Rich people also get some of the worst treatment because they have money, demand impossible results, won't follow treatment and attract quacks. Utah Jazz owner Larry H. Miller, age 64, died last February from diabetic complications after having his legs amputated. Every doctor I told this about would like to know how his treatment was so badly screwed up. If he had my lousy HMO, he would still be around.
If we had their resources, Michael Jackson would have a lot of freaky company.
man, it sucks to get old. All you are going to get is ass cancer, ball cancer, colon cancer or the worse kind of cancer which is prostate cancer, which is right between the dick and the ass! I'm eating my fiber one and drinking copious amounts of green tea. This is why meat is murder. Too much carbon carcinogens in that barbecued meat. Cooking at high heat for long periods of time does create cancer-causing compounds called polycyclicaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). PAHs are formed on the charred parts of the food and in the smoke from the dripping juices and fat. PAHs are mutagens, substances that can alter the genetic material of cells, and so it is thought that PAHs in food may increase the risk of cancer.
I remember my mom's copy of the year-end issue of People that featured the famous pose, the one from the poster. I held on to that magazine for years. She was breathtakingly lovely, truly iconic. RIP.
Very sad.
BTW, Ryan O'Neal asked her to marry him, not remarry (as this post says). She was only married once, to Lee Majors.
and he said that it will happen when she says yes...not sure if that happened before she passed..
so sad. I hope she didn't feel pain in her last days...
Sadly it probably didn't happen; he was quoted (while leaving the hospital) as saying that she couldn't speak :(
Rest in peace angel.
Bye sweetie, say hi to Aaron up there.
She really was a classy chick. This is so sad because she really was a nice person and never a trashy celeb. Hope Ryan and their son can get through the loss.
i interpret it as he asked her and she agreed to marry him but they weren't going to marry until she was able to say yes during the vows. hopefully that made her happy in some way.
Michael Jackson suffered cardiac arrest! From CNN.
anal cancer? very unfortunate. RIP.
RIP Farrah!
