What would Optimus Prime say? According to the Daily News, "An advance screening of the summer blockbuster 'Transformers' turned chaotic Tuesday night and temporarily shut down the AMC Theatre on 34th St." Apparently only 300 people were expected, but instead the screening's organizers were "confronted with a line that stretched along Ninth Ave. When staffers tried to distribute passes, bedlam ensued." The police were called in and the whole theater was shut down for two hours, prompting this peeved observation from moviegoer Danielle Rieter, "I don't know why I can't see 'The Proposal' because everyone had a problem with 'Transformers.'" Indeed! It's unclear if the screening was on the IMAX screen, because you know how passionate people get with IMAX. AMC 25's popularity is too big for its own good. Sometimes for premiers I'd like to avoid that place like the plague.
But any other time its a great theater,
It wasn't Empire 25 on 42nd (which also had a screening on Monday night that apparently went without incident). It was 34th street.
Ahhhh. Thanks for the correction. the AMC threw me off.
But AMC 34th St is great for seeing 3 movies at the same time on slow nights. The staff just doesnt give an F. It gets ghetto during premier weekends though.
Wow, so much drama for such a crap movie.
Exactly! I mean, c'mon people it's Transformers 2... the latest crap-fest from Michael Bay.
We're all in crap-greement then!
Crap.
20% fresh on Rottentomatoes. That's pretty pitiful.
Which leads me to wonder: who are these people?
The promotions company who runs the free preview screenings at AMC 34 has a history of overbooking the screenings like this; I'm surprised it took this long for some idiot to start throwing punches when denied the opportunity to see a movie for free.
note to danielle: with the money you saved by not seeing the proposal, you can buy yourself a couple pints of haagen dazs and search for ryan reynolds pictures online. you'll enjoy yourself more.
My friend told me yesterday that there are two robots in this movie that speak in "Ebonics." One has a gold robot "tooth." Both are illiterate. I am not kidding.
Robot Al Sharpton is a'comin' for ya....
If you liked Transformers 2, you'll just LOVE what he'll do to Thundercats!

Why is Sandra Bullock always the one to suffer?
Because she brings it on herself by picking crap movies since, well, the beginning of her 'career'.
Hey! Miss Congeniality 2: Electric Buggawhores changed my life forever.
It's Transformers in IMAX (real, Lincoln Square IMAX) day! Yay!!!
In three to four months all these movies come out on DVD anyway.
If you ride the subway in the outer boroughs, it's more like 3-4 days. ;)
Well ladies and gentlemen I was actually there and it did not start with the lack of security or personnel but with false advertisment and one group not knowing with the other group was doing. That morning Paramount had a slurpee brain freeze contest at Planet Hollywood with different prizes and each participant was suppose to get a pass for 2 to see the screening at the Lincoln Square IMAX theatre. They told the participants that there were no passes and they put everybody's name on a list and sent over to 34th Street theatre. Now they had the section roped off but they did it on the street side, leaving the stree side open so anybody can cross the street and get into the line. At 5:43 a crowd of about 40 people can across the street from Manhattan Center and merged into th line and acted like they had been there for a long period of time. Those people got tickets and the ones that were waiting out there for hours did not get tickets and that's when the chaos started. The volunteers that were suppose to help with the crowd had left which made matters worse.
If they would stop handing out tickets to the theater in front of the line in the open, it is impossible for the staff to know who was on line and who wasn't in this manner. Instead have the individual handing out the admission tickets stand by the doors with one door open. Then have people inside of the ropes single file at no more than 10 at a time approach the door and then collect their passes. Now thepeople that have been waiting hours are now told that they can't get in and the movie theatre personnel will not give out any more tickets and then the crowd began to plead their cases and then thand started asking people to disburst.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but i don't think anyone needed this level of detail on this poorly-managed event. People who wait hours on line for Transformers 2 don't particularly ellicit a lot of sympathy.
"Slurpee Brain-freeze Contest" participants. Thank you for answering my question above.
Why would only 300 be expected? It's a special sneak preview of a summer blockbuster. Shouldn't they have expected a strong turnout?

Such behavior is unbecoming of the usually high class individuals a free screening of this movie would no doubt attract.
