Do you know what didn't happen between 2am Monday and early this morning? That's right, the city went 48 hours without rain! A high pressure system was able to hold the stubborn cut-off low from moving back into the area.
That same battle is likely to last through tomorrow and probably into Friday. Showers aren't too far away today and are likely to wet the city this afternoon. Clouds and rain will keep the high to the upper 70s.
Something different is in store for tomorrow: Heat! Some of the hot weather that's been plaguing the Midwest will make it here tomorrow. Look for a steamy day with highs near 90. With the heat and humidity there will, of course, be a chance of a shower or thunderstorm.
The forecasts are pretty varied for Friday and the weekend, in all cases, however they call for more sun than clouds. The Weather Channel says we'll cool to the low to mid 80s. The Weather Service is calling for the low 90s on Friday and a sunny, pleasant weekend. AccuWeather keeps things in the upper 80s through Sunday.

If by "the city" you mean Manhattan. It poured in Queens yesterday evening.

Yeah, I should have been more precise. No rain was recorded at Central Park from 2am Monday until 2am this morning.
Correction: It rained, yes it did.
But I don't care. Now I WANT it to rain every day and I'll be disappointed when it stops!
It rained lightly in Gramercy on Monday evening, hard to believe that this was strictly a below 59th Street phenomenon
It's possible. Last night nary a drop in Astoria, but pouring in Whitestone.
It rained pretty hard in Forest Hills from about 7:15 to 7:30. Short but hard! (That's what she said.) So I wouldn't call it a no-rain day.
Good work, Joe.
