Davonte Kelly, the 11-year-old whose skull was grazed by a bullet as he waited to play Little League baseball, made a triumphant appearance at Citi Field to throw the ceremonial first pitch (video) before the Cardinals-Mets game. Kelly, whose spunk has impressed the city and both the Mets and Yankees, also got to meet his favorite player, David Wright, who presented him with a special jersey and an autographed bat.
Davonte, who is in the fifth grade at P.S. 219, was proclaimed a miracle after an apparently stray bullet entered his head but only dented his skull. He told MLB.com, "I was amazed I could survive a bullet. I thought what everyone else thought. I thought it was a miracle. My life could have been taken away." And he acknowledged the special situation to the Daily News, "My life is extraordinary now. Ordinary kids don't get to throw out the first pitch."
The police are still searching for the shooter.

Lucky Hardheaded brat.
Mets Rock
Amazing how you can go from nothing to being able to throw out the first pitch and meet baseball player on the field.
I'm pretty sure his mom would have preferred that he wasn't, you know, shot in the head at all.
I understand, just saying how someone can get their 15 minutes of fame.
Seems like a pretty cool little guy. He has some screwball action on his throw, though. Who's coaching this kid? Gonna hurt his elbow.
Note to other young Mets fans: attempting to recreate Kelly's near-fatal experience will in no way get you closer to meeting David Wright or stepping onto the mound at Citi Field.
This kid's lucky. Deaths while playing or practicing baseball are much more common than most people think. My brother was killed by lightning a few months before I was born. He and his team were practicing at a school field and there wasn't a cloud in the sky (lighting can travel as far as 10 miles from its source). Although this book says it is comprehensive, he's not in it: Death at the Ballpark
If they really cared about this kid, they would have hit the ball a bit better.
glad the mets did this for him, and that he was indeed able to be there. good stuff.
aw, this makes me happy
How in the world was he introduced? "Little Davonte, the devoted baseball player who was shot in the head."
Something in the lines of "Little League player who was struck in the head with a bullet.
The best part is after he threw out the pitch, he had to pull up his pants a little (they weren't very baggy) while running to catcher Omir Santos.
Good stuff!
